So I'm seriously considering a Tanto blade on my next Chris Reeve. Anyone get a Tanto and regret it?

I have the opposite- Tanto joy. It's a perfectly executed grind by Chris Reeve, both large and small in addition to the Umnumzaan model. It's a highly versatile blade shape.

I think I've decided against the large inkosi. Now it's between Umnumzaan and Large 21 with drop point or Tanto. Not an insingo fan.

Umnumzaan and two Tanto Micartas with a "plain jane"

Added a NICA Tanto also but need a new group shot.

I cant imagine you'll regret buying a tanto. If you do, plenty of us around to make it right for you ;)

My only remorse is that I had to let them go. I had the large and small Sebenzas as well as the one piece NICA models, all in tanto. Waaaaa.

Only the small one. The large 21 micarta is next on my list.

Here's the small with dual lugs & ACU lanyard w/bead:

that micarta is beautiful!!

oh and to answer the OP - I have a small 21 Tanto and just recently got a Tanto Umnumzaan and I have zero regrets. The CRK Tanto is the only tanto I like.

I had a NICA tanto, but not no more.

I have a small 21 tanto, nice little blade that I like a lot.

I would if I bought one with no real use for that grind...

To the point; you need to understand the benefits and drawbacks of a Tanto and decide if it works for you.

I'm going Tanto on my next large Sebenza 21 - been looking at them on YouTube and the blade looks awesome[emoji106]

I have these and a few other non-CRK tantos but they are just collection pieces. I'm not a fan of tanto blades for users.

What would you consider use for that grind? I haven't talked to anyone that makes much of a case for anything but that it pierces better. Consensus among buyers seems more to do with aesthetics than anything else.

Love your small Tanto and Umnumzaan! Which do you like better if you had to part ways with one? I love my small 21. But it's a plain jane drop point.

The tanto does not pierce better. It is the worst at peircing, due to the thick obtuse point. It is the strongest tip mind you. That is the only advantage when piercing, so maybe it pierces the hood of a car better, but everything else not so much. Although it looks like it's blunt, the very thin point of the Insingo pierces best in my experience, if we are talking blister packs, cardboard, or cloth etc.

I own all three CRK blade shapes. The tanto looks awesome, but is probably the least useful all around, of the three shapes. You don't find many tanto blades in the standard kitchen set, or in the workshop for exactly this reason.

Having said that, the CRK tanto does work well enough for 95% of EDC tasks, and there is a small number of tasks where it is actually superior. When you carry a tanto, and come across a task it is suited for, it gives some satisfaction.

My reasons to own a CRK tanto:

1-The CRK tanto looks sexy. Best looking tanto made IMHO.
2-The knife represents a high level of manufacturing and is really a "tour-de-force" of bladesmithing at CRK.
3-The 5% of tasks where it excels keeps life interesting.
4-It is something different to sharpen, which can be fun.
5-It looks sophisticated, and commands attention and interest when others see it.
6-You never know when you are going to have to stab your knife through the hood of a car.

The only way I will give up either Tanto is when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.
