Anyone have this huge Rough Ryder Reserve Swish ?

I've never heard of it, but the RR brand is always solid for the money, even better if you get to handle a few and pick out the best.

I like the design, but I'm not sure about the aesthetics of the nail nick and the fuller. I would have liked it better if there was no fuller, the nick and fuller were integrated, or (my most preferred) the cut out in the handle was deeper so that it was designed to be pinched out with no nail nick.

I'm interested in what RR does with the Reserve line. I think there is a market for quality traditional that are a step up from entry level for folks that appreciate good fit and finish but don't feel like chasing the dragon of getting a GEC. I hadn't heard of the Reserve line until this thread, but I've got my eye on a couple.

I broke down and ordered one of these silly things last night. I'll report back some first impressions when it shows up later this week.

seems kinda pricey for a rough ryder....but maybe its that nicely made fit and finish wise?

I'd be curious to hear what that particular knife is like, but aesthetically it's not my favorite swing guard. The Reserve line is a great value, though. I have the Barlow, Clasper, and Hippo and I'd say they remind me the most of the Case / Tony Bose collaborations. The multi blade patterns aren't executed as well, but the liners are clearly cut instead of stamped out, the grinds are more precise than a typical traditional, the gaps are very minimal, and the bolsters are machined steel. The main thing holding them back are some unconventional design choices.

That's a perfect assessment and I agree the design choices do stop me from buying more of them.
I was actually interested in the swing guard until I re-read the specs.

Yeah, it's weird looking and overpriced (probably) but I ordered one anyway. Fedex says sometime today, but that could mean anything around these parts.

I'll report back on lockup and gaps and such. The important stuff. 😁

It's based on an old Schlieper (Eye Brand) design from the 50's, 60's -

Neat to see a modern interpretation.

Thanks very much for this post! Very cool to see, indeed!

That old catalog page is dynamite.
