Anyone having internet connection issues?

For a while now our ability to get online has been sporadic. We've got two computers and use two different browsers.

For about a month one computer wouldn't load any sites for the first hour after it was turned on, before eventually straightening out on its own. Recently the other computer started having issues around Thanksgiving, and certain retailer sites wouldn't load while others would. Some sites say the connection has timed out, only to load immediately on another attempt.

Is this type of sporadic, inconsistent behavior being experienced by anyone else?

Well of course, there are people all over the world who have similar issues, and there are also people who don't. But even if someone is having this type of issue, it is almost certainly unconnected to whatever is happening to you.

Reset your modems/routers. Clear your computers' cache files. Run your internet security software and virus scanners.

People who don't do these things will almost certainly eventually experience issues. If you did these things, and still have issues, then contact your service provider.

Well some problems are local and some providers are notoriously bad.
However, now and then (many months in between) my router needs to be reset - a simple power down and start up.

Ah yes, this brings up another point.

This may be a similar issue.

I thought this was sporadic for a time, but the internet would shut down completely, and even a full system diagnostic and reset, wouldn't isolate or resolve it. I slept on it once or twice and the next day it was resolved. But when it kept happening, seemingly at a regular but long enough interval, I called, and sure enough it was a planned outage. And often at the same time of day and even day of the week, so not as sporadic as I had previously thought. I just learned to work around it and save the computer stuff for later... after calling three or four times over a few months to finally learn the lesson.

But maybe a partial outage would produce the effects you're experiencing? The service provider will know that, too.

Our home internet has problems every day. Some may be related to outside service, many are probably our router. Sometimes the internet service is like someone is outside our house flipping the switch off and on- off for 10 seconds, on for a minute, off for 10 seconds, etc.
Sometimes turn the computer on and wifi won't connect. Sometimes wifi will just disconnect for no reason, 30 minutes later it might be back on. Sometimes wifi is working but the computer says it isn't connected to the internet.
Over the past year or so I've used 7 different computers on our home internet, similar results with all of them. 2 of them were brand new, so I don't think it's a cache/browser/driver issue with the computers.
And on top of all that, our TV service is from the same provider through the same wires. Our TV will stutter- meaning the audio and video will freeze randomly for about 3 seconds, then resume. It seems that this always happens when you want to hear what the actor is saying. It might do this 3 times per hour or 30 times per hour.

We have two separate computers hooked up to the same router, each of them acts differently when it comes to problems. One will load while the other will lag and freeze. Recently the lagging one would load just fine while the other wouldn't load anything.

I have found that sometimes problems like this are related to DNS. Try using public DNS servers such as Google: 8.8.8.8. and 8.8.4.4. You can change the DNS settings in individual computers, or change settings in your router. For more info:

Clearing the browser cache seemed to help a lot. Calling the service provider was less helpful, they were very hostile and treated us like we were monkeys with rocks.

Had the call the bank on Thursday about a transaction, they were having computer problems as well and had to reload their system just to get it working again.

Friday had to get gas, and the pump's computer was having issues all its own with not reading the card, reading it and then kicking us right back out, and then just shutting down when the tank was just over half full and not letting us continue.
