Been concerned. Hope he and the other forumites around there are ok.
Would a volcano be a good heat source for heat treating knife steel?

Ya' know John, I've been wondering the same thing. I posted my hundredth post yesterday and was sure Samo ("I'll reply to anything") would turn up to say congrats. I was actually a little disappointed until I saw your thread. Now I'm a little concerned, Samo's one of the good guys around here, hopefully he's just travelling or something.

Hi tortoise,
Yep, hopefully someone will fill us in.
John
BTW Congrats on your 100th post!!!

Gentlemen:

I believe the volcano you're referring to is Mt. Merapi near Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Since Samo is most likely in peninsular Malaysia, and Mt. Merapi is on the island of Java, Indonesia, chances are he wasn't affected by the lava flow...there's plenty of sea between Java and Malaysia...

Cheers,
John Kuo

whew! A relief for samo!

Thanks for the welcome, colobbfan (John). I'm guessing samo is ethnically Chinese, and if so, he'd probably be on vacation/visiting relatives for the week of the Chinese New Year. He should be back in a few days; I'm glad there're a few knife enthusiasts like him in Southeast Asia.

And now back to drooling over the ATR specs/pics...

Cheers,
John Kuo

Sam, Hangs out mostly in the Asian and Australian forum in the Community section. Post for him there. He is also the biggest Spydie fan and would check here.

JK u r right on it being Chinese New Year and all. He is probably having fun with family. Later

Hey Tortoise ~~ CONGRATS on the 100th post dude!!! And keep on Rockin'!

John, my good man!! Muchas Gracias for being such a good forumite.. John was right, there aren't any volcanoes here in Peninsular Malaysia... We are actually quite fortunate to be away from such calamities. No earthquakes too.. There are apparent problems like floods and fire over here.. When the volcano blew up, I was doing some fishing at the streams in the South!!

Had a swell time!!!

Anyway, thanks again for your concern dudes!
