I just recently came across MercWorx knives they look well made but I would like some other peoples opinons. Since iam more than likely joining the navy in awhile and since they have restrictions that the knives are only allowed to be 3inch i started looking at the MercWorx Orion. I personally like Buck Strider have 2 myself unfortunatly there to big to take if i do leave.

i've heard of them, but thats all.

their website says the orion has a 3 3/4 inch blade, too big from what you state in your post.

what will you use it for? most likely utility if you're going to be aboard ship, i'd assume.

i've worked on boats for years, and i get by with a folding knife usually. maybe a spyderco salt would fit the bill.

buck has inexpensive fixed blades with three inch blades.

iirc, the coast guard issues myerchin knives to its crews. does the navy issue sheath knives?

You might try and do some searches here in the forum.."MercWorx"....
I'm sure you'll get a number of posts...

I had the medium folder, the Lachesis. It was one of the worst knives I have ever had, especially when you think of how much they cost. Fit and finish were terrible the blade came dull as a butter knife. And it opened and closed like the pivot was made of sandpaper. Now this could just be one bad experience and they might be a good company, but I was hugely disappointed, so much so I gave the knife to a friend who wanted it for some project. For the money they charge for these knives you can get some amazing customs, thats the way I would go. Obenauf,Hinderer, Strider all much better quality and cheaper or the same price.

Again before I get slammed, this was my experience. And my opinion.

The Navy has a 3-inch knife rule!?! WTF! Doesn't the 6 inch bore gun poking out of the nuclear powered ship cause a little more damage than a 4" knife could! I don't know if their is some reason behind this, but good luck cutting through the 10-inch wide anchor rope when the anchor gets stuck on coral and your being chased by pirates!
