Had a guy send me a beautiful slipjoint with the back spring broken. The blade says WR Carnes - Maker. The owner says that he got the knife about 25 years ago, but didn't get it directly from the maker.

I can't seem to find any info on him (other than finding where a few of his knives have sold via flea-bay and a few other places in the past).

I would rather send the knife to him for repair than tackle it myself. It has some scrimshaw work that runs right through the spring pins.

He's got a picture of a scrimshawed knife by John Stahl in Art of the Knife. I wonder if the author or Coop, who photographed the work, have any info.

Levines guide to knives has a Wyndel Carnes listed in Whitesburg Ga. no other info but that might be a place to start looking.

Thanks guys. I'll keep looking.

Wendel Carnes knifemaker, Whitesburg, Ga. Mechanic for Ga. Power Co plant Yates. Used steel scavenged from plant ops to make knives. (Used industrial hacksaw blades) I bought my dad one in 1979 for $100. Still have it today. Beautiful work.
