Well, the title says it all. I just saw it in my weekly AG Russel e-temptation and really liked the looks of it. I also like the fact that it has a 154CM blade and steel liners, in addition to its aluminum handles. So, what are y'all's thoughts and, hopefully, experiences with it? Thanks in advance :) Trout

I handled both the Voodoo and the Wild Weasel two weeks ago. My general concensus on both knives were:

1)both were well made

2)interesting designs

3)good action on the assisted opening device

4) handles too small for medium-large size human hands

number four had me putting both knives down, much to my chagrin. :(

Upon seeing them, they caught my eye and I thought I had a pair of potential keepers. Not so unfortunately...

I need to add that what didn't work for me may not be the case with you or others. You really should try to hold one for yourself. ;)

I've been eyeing them....I'm a bit of a CRKT fan, so a lineup OUTSIDE the M16 stuff that's interesting is good news...I'm pleased that they didn't hold back on the steel...they've been really cutting down on high end steels....wish I could try one also

I am mostly glad that they are trying to make some higher end knives. I would much rather see an American Made Lightfoot M1 with assisted opening and 154cm. That I would buy in a heartbeat.

I'm a bit of a fan of Crawford knives. I was looking forward to the Wild Weasel. But my hands are pretty big. If a knife with a deep finger choil is a little on the short side, I'm out. (Thanks, Misque.)

I had never seen the Voodoo design before CRKT came out with it, but then right after that, one of the guys brought a Crawford version to our club meeting. NICE feel to that knife. It's too garish a design for me, but it handled like a dream.

I'd really like to see a high end M16 line up. I can't describe how perfect my 3 inch M16 is to me. If they could make one in S30V/D2/VG10 and with an axis-esque lock, I might sell my other EDC knives....

I'm also a bit of a CRKT fan, but I think I want to "pick and play" first. The Wild Weasel is interesting to me. Depending on the local price, it could be on my list :D

Yeah, I hear you...I was planning on buying a mini mojo sooner or later, but I might drop that for one of these....

The axis lock does pose limitations on the flipper, but it can still be done. Take a look at the back of one of your axis lock knives...I can't remember if they're all see through like the mini grip though...anyway, you have to have the flipper sticking out under the bar, that is, away from where the (open) blade would be--but when the knife is closed. In benchmades, there's usually a notch right before the blade starts...the flipper would have to come out of that notch. It'll have to be "higher" than normal when the knife is open due to this design, but that's fine. The flipper will have to be pretty high on the blade to allow for space for the axis lock to be pulled all the way down before flipping it so you can do a normal style axis opening. Because the lock itself never crosses the flipper if it's placed there, I believe it it should work.

But that'll never happen. Too bad though.

thanks, guys, I knew I could count on you!
Yeah, I prefer to handle a knife in-person but I also like to get other's feedback, too. It's good to hear that the handle is small for a medium-large hand; that's my hand, exactly, and I don't care for knives with small handles, if given a choice!

I have large hands and I own the wild weasel. I do not think the handle is too small for my hands. I just bought a crkt M16-10ke EDC(green w/black tanto combo edge) and returned it right away because the handle was too small(although nice for a tiny sized cutter), and because it had a single hollow ground edge for lefties. I exchanged it for the Wild Weasel, and I love it. Opens hard, fast, and smooth with a lot of force. Zero play in the blade when open, fits great in my large hand, blade is super sharp, and it just feels like a high quality production knife.

I was at the knife dealer for about 2 hours looking at different knives. I handled the SOG flash 2, Sog trident folder, Kershaw Ken Onion Leek, and the Buck Tempest with ATS34 steel. All of these knives are great. It came down to either the buck tempest or the wild weasel because of the 154cm steels and out of all the knives except the Leek, these two had the least amount of play(virtually zero play). I chose the wild weasel mostly because it just felt right in my hand, although i do like the point up clip and flipper opener on the buck a lot. I probably would have gone with the Leek if it had 154cm/ATS34 steel although the Wild weasel still felt more natural in my hand. It also feels like it has substance, not too heavy, not too light.

I've sold a couple voodoos and they dont come back. Theyre a little small for my tastes considering how the choils make your hand sit. Its a 3 finger knife basically. The actions have been a little rough on all of them but this is said to clean up with a little use. I dont care for thier looks but they seem to do the job.

The Voodoo is a bit of an awkward design IMO, not overly practical. The Wild Weasel (Crawford Perfigo design) on the other hand is among best folder designs ever.

All in all, they're exceptionally well-made for the money, unfortunately those rubber inserts are sloppily fitted and generally cheap looking. They should've gone for properly fitted carbon fiber or even wingwalk tape inserts. Or they could have simply left the handle plain, no dimples, no inserts.
It's not that big a deal though since you could always send it to a custom knifemaker and ask him to replace the inserts with CF or whatever or do a wingwalk mod yourself.

However...

...that is true.

I'd love to see a manual version of the Wild Weasel with a 4" blade and either better inlays or sans dimples.

It has a wonderful internal stop mechanism. Also opens up solidly. Apparently, they didn't flipper it because of problems with kershaw. (supposedly, they patented A.O.s with flippers)

Thats true about the rubber inserts. I initially exchanged mine an hour after purchasing it for another one because onr of the rubber inserts was not flush with the scales.

A.O.'s that are forced to use thumb studs, as a result of Kens patient, are inferior to those which use a fllipper (IMHO). As a result the CKKT kinves wont be as much of a joy to use as the Kershaw Speed Safe designs.
I do like the Robo flipper from D.D.R designs though.

Out of all the A.O.'s I tested(SOG's flash2 and trident folder, Kershaw Leek, Buck tempest and rush), the CRKT wild weasel and voodoo felt the most like an automatic knife. It had the most force, was the quickest, and felt the most solid overall. It was definitely the best feeling A.O. when it came to using the thumb stud. The leek is a close 2nd if not equal and that is only because of the flipper opener and solid contruction. The Weasel is an absolute pleasure to open.

The CRKTs have a very linear feel in the thumbstud motion. I still prefer the Camillus style, though
