In perticular anyone have a kabar knife break? Perhaps we can list here, all the knives that should be avoided.

There were some posts about Kabars breaking at the stick tang because of the sharp corners. I broke the tip on a folder doing something dumb, not really unexpected.

I broke about 1/4" of the tip off the blade on my Gerber Legend multitool last week. Doing something stupid...:thumbdn:

Kinda touchy topic.

Most knives I've broken and seen break have done so during prying, twisting, and applying impacts to the knife. Many of the activities were stupid in hind site (but I still do 'em :)

My most recent to break was a well abused Mini-Grip. During twisting a hole round (er), it blew apart. Despite my suspicion it was already on its way to destruction before I used it, it happened on my time (and therefore I bought the owner a replacement).

Is this expected or normal behavior of the Mini-Grip? No, not from what I've seen and read.

Always remember to pick up a paint key when buying paint! I have busted a tip once on a paint can & it hasn't happened since.

I broke a 4" folder at the PX,built in Japan made in Japan, bought in Japan. I snapped it open in a gravity/centrifugal force move and the blade spapped in half and the point end went sailing over the side. The rest of the knife soon followed.

I've broken a few due to no fault of the knife .... only exception was a brand new Case slipjoint that literally fell apart in my hand when I tried to sharpen it.

I tried to throw a Spyderco knockoff at a cardboard box. It missed and hit concrete, breaking off the tip. :o

Broke the tip off a Buck 110 prying a lightbulb.
Broke the tip off a AFCK ATS34 also prying in metal
thinking it was unbreakable DUH !:o

About 14 years ago I broke the tip (1/4") off of a Victorinox Swiss Officers Champ. I still carry it and I keep meaning to find out if I can have it refurbished.

I've broken the tip off the plyers on my Leatherman Pulse and had a SOG Twitch II break the spring. A few years back I had also broken the tip off my Delica, but that was totally my fault, as I was prying with it.

I don't know if this qualifies as "breaking", but I had two Buck linerlocks give up on me. An Alpha Hunter and a Crosslock. I'm never buying a Buck linerlock again.

your're talking about the old crosslocks with the plastic handle. those were crap, I loved mine, but it was still crap.

I busted the tip on my scallion trying to fix a jammed door lock. and I reground it:

Busted knife tips work really great for opening paint cans:o :D

Boker w/ceramic blade snapped right off. Guess I deserved it...what was I thinking buying a ceramic bladed knife? Last time I blew $100+ that fast... well, we won't go there!

The only knife I've ever broken, ironicly, was a Swamp Rat Howling Rat. I was trying to wiggle it out of a log that I had jammed it into pretty hard and the tip snapped off. About 3/4 of an inch. Couldn't tell you why it happened. Got a replacement and have had no issues since.

As a young lad running around in the forest with friends, we happened upon a house being built. It was a Sunday and no workers were around. I jumped up into a small bulldozer and I found a Buck Special sitting in the seat. I made a belt out of some webbing that I found and stashed the sheathless knife into it like some kind of Forest Pirate. A short time later when leaving the site, we stopped by an old semi-petrified tree. Seeing that it was such a big "target", I drew my newly obtained knife from my homemade sash and threw it at the old tree. SNAP! The blade and handle seperated right at the ricasso. Ooops! Total misuse and abuse on my part.:)
