Hey Folks.

Super interested in the Cold Steel Colossus, I have no clue why, But I do. Ive been looking on youtube and google, and there isn't that much on it. Daily use, Actually hard use or much to that effect.

If anyone here has owned one, handled one or has any input could you please chime in?

Thanks in advance!

I carry one every day. It has become one of my favorite knives.
I only use it for daily cutting tasks as a guy who works in an office. No "hard use" yet, just cutting apples, opening mail, normal boring stuff ;)
Mike Wallace crushed this design. It's a super comfortable knife, an easy carry, and it cuts like a monster.
I bought one of the first ones to be released and I've carried and used it it pretty much every day. Edge is still screaming sharp
I recommend it

I've only handled one at a knife store, so i cannot comment on the use but i can comment on the carry.

The knife is big length(10-inch) and width-wise but it's much lighter than expected because of the lack of steel liner, which also makes it more balanced. In fact, at 7.2oz, it's lighter than a ZT0200 and ZT030X series, both less than 9 inch overall. Also, it's only slightly heavier than ZT Emerson models, ZT0350(only 8" overall), or the new ZT456(only 7.7' long). Perspective, perspective...

Another thing to comment on is the overall thickness. It's much thinner for its size, again due to lack of liners. I would say the Colossus's handle is about as thick as the Recon 1, which makes it very pocketable. Some people may complain about the width, but if you are used to carrying a wallet, carrying the colossus should feel similar.

The only reason i dont buy it is that anything above 9 inch overall is impractical for me, and i generally only carry something less than 8.5" long. But if you are a large knife kind of guy, at less than $150 everywhere, this is a must buy. Where else are you going to find CTS-XHP, 4" thick blade, world's strongest lock, 3D contoured G-10 for less than $150? The F&F on the new XHP models are generally on par with Spyderco's US/TW produced model.

I don't like where the lock release is located.

Cool!

Thanks guys...and THANK-YOU Cold Steel For chiming in on this one. That was really cool for a company to chime in like this!

I Just went ahead and ordered one! Its been really bugging me, and At least now I can Give it a shot. If it doesn't work out, You guys will see it in the "For Sale" Section prob on Wednesday. :)

What's odd, is that there isn't one Practical use Video of it on youtube. Even the normal Russians who beast the Sh*t out of their knives have't posted a video yet....I have to say. Neither will I. I can't afford to beat the hell out of my knives and post it online for people like me to watch.

The Colossus is one of the best knives I have run across in over 20 years of knives and knife collecting.

This has been my main EDC for the past couple of months. I like it so much that I bought both versions too.

The only real downside is the lack of a "pointy" tip, so I always carry two knives to make-up for that.

It is a big knife that cuts very well. The curve of the handle fits my hands really well.

I guess that since it is so close (in shape) to the 4-MAX, that it has been overlooked.

I'm really looking forward to getting this in. I generally only IWB my knives. So this will be interesting. I don't IWB any XL recons or talwar's because the G10 is too rough for me. So this will be a great experience for me. Either way, it's a learning experience....and that's half the fun. That's why we have the for sale section. :)

That thing is a...a...a...colossus!!!
I was looking at some pics of the Spyderco 'lil Lum today. It would be fun to see a side-by-side of those two. Ha.

Well. Got The Cold Steel Colossus in today. And what can I say?! This should be called the Battle Axe instead of the Colossus.

This is a crazy solid an nice knife. One thing for sure on this one, and this is saying a lot. This knife has to be held to be seen. The pictures can't really give on an idea of how nice this is.
The handle on this Cold steel is actually really nice. Thin, MUCH thinner than it looks in the pictures. Not too thin, Pretty much Perfect if you plan on Swinging it around like a Battle Axe. The Handle is really Smooth, and Nice. Its a great Jump from Cold Steel's G10, like on the Recon and the Talwar, for me those two are too rough for my daily white collar life.

This Blade though, is oddly great. I could see why one could use this for cutting fruit, or boxes. Its a surprisingly thin blade for how wide it is. So it slices really well i'm assuming.

Whats really great thought, is that you can swing this thing around with crazy good reach BUT its actually really unnoticeable in IWB carry. I weigh pretty much nothing so for me to say that...thats not a reach.

There isn't one knife like this on the market. Not one that I can think of. I wouldn't call it a Colossus though because the pictures make it look way bigger than it actually is. Its very light weight though for having such a long handle and wide blade. That is what makes it so nice to carry. It has MUCH less noticeability than a Recon 1 NON-XL version. The reason is the Very smooth ridges, lightness spread over its size but also because it lays really flat to the body in IWB.

Really like this one...but the same day I got it...its going out. Its going to be in the Classifieds section. I JUST ordered a 4-MAX. Really want to see how that one feels.

So if Anyone wants it...Its BRAND NEW. Never carried it. Just opened it up a few times and Wrote this up.

If its that one may accidentally disengage the lock... Trust me you will not be able to "accidentally " do so. The spring on triads are pretty tough
