This question is directed at those with first-hand experience with Sr101 and CPM 3V.
I have a Swamp Rat RMD and I really like the SR101 (modded 52100 with Busse's HT & cryo). I am curious as how it stakes up to CPM 3V. I have put my RMD through the real abuse, including chopping highway-grade aggregate, cutting pennies and nails in half, cutting open steel soup cans and then chopping them in half, digging nails out of frozen wood, chiseling apart concrete covered bricks and even trying to snap the blade (gotta love Busse's warranty). Only the aggregate and the nails put small nicks in the edge. None of the aggressive prying bent any portion of the blade or tip. The tip did spectacular in the chiseling and has the tiniest dent from it going trough the brick and into the concrete floor under it. I know SR101 takes a wicked edge and I swear with feels crisper than my Benchmade 810 Contego in CPM M4.
So I have to ask; what does CPM 3V offer over Sr101 in terms of toughness? I know that the 3V will have slightly better corrosion resistance due to the additional chromium. From what I gather, edge retention is close with the SR101 being easier to sharpen. Is a blade with this steel worth an extra $100+ over a Swamp Rat?
Sincerely,
Crow
