Just curious if anyone here serves or has served in the U.S. Air National Guard. Several of my buddies are in the 181st Fighter Wing and I am seriously thinking about signing on. I would love any feedback positive or negative!

Follow your heart. It is very rewarding to serve & enjoying new friendships is part of maturing today. You will be filling vacancies if any of your unit is nationalized but you will not be deployed unless you have had adequate training.
This decision is comporable to marriage BUT there is no divorce here. You must/will serve your full enlistment.
As an enlistee during the Korean war [army ] I don't regret my 3 years because I really learned to appreciate this country. You should experience how & under what conditions others live.

Uncle Alan :)

My brother joined a year ago right out of high school and seems to really enjoy it. He's working full-time at his base for the summer, just doing his job fixing C-130s and coming home on the weekends. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me (I served four years in the active duty Army). Like Uncle alan said, it's a very rewarding experience. I'm looking at what the Air National Guard has to offer now that I'm out of the Army, based on my brother's experience. Just don't forget that you can most definitely be activated and sent places you don't want to go doing things you don't want to do. The Air Force as a general rule treats people far, far better than the Army, Navy or Marines. I worked with all of the services at one time or another, with the exception of the Coast Guard, and the Air Force guys always had better accomodations and were much happier overall.

I served six years in the Air National Guard. I loved it. It was fun and the Air Force does treat its people good. I only got out because it was interfering with my regular job. I am very proud of my service in the Marine Corps but I enjoyed the Air Guard much more. But, I was in a medical unit with a lot of pretty young ladies. :)

Thanks guys! I appreciate the feedback! Every bit of information will help me make a very informed decision.
