Hello everyone, Merry Christmas. Hope everyone is enjoying this evening. I just received a gift from my kids, a Kershaw Clash. I've never owned a Kershaw before, heard decent things about the company but my concern right now is this particular blade. On all the reviews I've watched, I noticed that the type of steel is printed on actual blade. This one just has "China" on that same location, is this a newer model, older, a knockoff? It came with a legit box and instructions. I'm a little worried.

I don't think they always print the blade steel, check the side of the blade and see if there is a section with markings, particularly the words "KAI patented" you will also most likely see the four digit number 1605 which is the model number for the Clash. If you see that then the knife is most likely authentic. You might also see four X's on the side of the blade which means its a "blem" which is a basically just a knife that has a slight cosmetic imperfection which Kershaw sells at a discount, though they are still totally fine knives functionally. If you don't see any of that stuff try posting some pics and some of the Kershaw experts on here might be able to help you more. Merry Christmas!

Appreciate that Hazy, the 1605 is onn there and below it doesbkave the kai patented on it. The KAI Is written in a "boxy" kind of lettering.

Mt turboxx thank you.

Kershaw will do a lot of "special" versions of their knives for big box stores that come across as a little different. I have a part-serrated Clash that was made specifically for Big 5 sporting goods that's unassisted and has thumb studs! It's marked as a 1605TSSTB5 but there's no designation as to what the blade steel is. You might have a special run "store" version like mine with 3CR steel or something. They do a lot of those for the big boxes that they can sell at a very competitive price. Without knowing if you have at least 8CR13MOV steel, it's hard to say how good of a blade you have. I don't ever use my Clash, it just sits in a big Spyderpac...because I'm the knife equivalent of the crazy cat lady. :)

I doubt it's a counterfeit, if that was your concern. I'd use the knife and enjoy it and know you're backed by one of the better warranties in the business. Can't go wrong with Kershaw for an inexpensive EDC blade.
