I've been asked to donate a couple camp knives to a search and rescue organization. But I need someone who works with kydex to make a couple sheaths for them, for free. Anyone interested?

Here's a picture of one of the knives. They're both about the same. 10" blades.

How much time before you need them? What is the donation for? Do you have a link to the auction (or whatever it is)?

Also, is Kydex a requirement?

No great rush, but it would be nice to get them on their way soon.

Not sure I understand your second question. I'm donating the two knives to the organization for them to use in search and rescue operations.

No link, and no auction. There doesn't seem to be much about them online, but they are a fairly new group. You can check them out. They call themselves Black River Search and Rescue.

Here's what the guy said in his initial email:

I am a member of Black River Search and Rescue in Arkansas. We are a non-profit 501c3 and receive no compensation for our services. We search for missing adults and missing and exploited children nation wide, urban, rural woodland, water. We are a member of Klaas Kids. We need good duty knives, especially for our woodland searches. We are asking you to donate 2 or 3 knives to help us complete our searches successfully. We need knives that we can count on during the harshest conditions. Your help would be greatly appreciated as we, each member, pays for our equipment out of our own pocket. I will provide all of the paperwork to prove our legitimacy upon request.

I'm aware they could be scamming me, but no reason to think so, so far.

They did say they prefer kydex, but they'd probably accept leather. (beggars can't always be choosers)

Thanks for your questions,
Phillip

Kydex would be the best choice considering the use and environment these knives will see. The request was for HARD USE KNIVES so they will not be safe queens for sure.

Phillip, sorry for the redundant question. I wasn't assuming a scam, but it's always nice to know more about the project.

I'm in agreement with Paul regarding the choice of Kydex. The knife is beautiful, just looked like something that fit better with leather, but I understand how Kydex would be optimal given the conditions.

Good luck, and good on you for your effort.

It would be nice to see a photo of the knfe and sheath together before they are sent off to work. I am probally not alone in this. The knife is very nice indeed.

OOOPs....nevermind, I got it

I've sent you two messages; did you get them both? The first one was 9 days ago...

Just so everyone knows, I haven't heard back from the "customer" (not sure what to call someone who's not paying...), so I may be selling these knives. In which case, I'll be making my own sheaths to go with them.

We're teetering on the edge of the rules with this, I've let it go as far as I'm comfortable and probably going to catch some flack for letting go as far as I have. Lets end it and let it go.

Dwayne is right. I'm afraid this is not a good fit for the sheath forum. It also boders on solicitation.
