I've got a Dumpster Mutt LE that I want to cover. I just doesn't look right in satin. I figure it's gonna get used and stained I'd rather start with a better finish.

I've considered cold-bluing that some have tried here. What about some sort of home-blackening from Brownell's or something? Perma-Silk maybe??? (I've got some for AR mags - I wonder what it would do to carbon steel.)

Looking for ideas - esp. with pix of you got em.

Thanks.

PermaSilkG would not be ideal, as it is more a dry powder lubricant than a paint... you don't want that chalking off into your food.

I am facing the same choice for my DFLE... considering blue (but need to test, as it may not work on SR77), next choice would be krylon or duracoat as I have some left over...

-For bead blasting... any instructions? Can I just throw some glass bead into a blasting cabinet, and an air only hose and just spray it over the blade a bunch?
-If not, I see some guns that feed the media in the $20 range... should work.
-anyone know what media Busse uses? glass bead? what grit or is it a two grit treatment? (just trying to keep it authentic).

Krylon or Rustoleum and a little masking tape works for hard users.

And you can go with any color you like.
