i was just thinking i really hate knife abusers, you know the type. i got a few months back a Kershaw Trooper 1007 and despite the fact the aluminium container was totaled and the scabbard was missing it was a good deal at US$30. the thing that really got me going was the way the previous owner had sharpened it, i mean they are supposed to be mirrior finish but he made it all scratched up with those little buggers that are hard to remove. anyway after many hours of polising etc i got it looking pretty good, this photo don't do it any justice cause its all blurry but i have to say its a great knife an holds one mean edge. i've seen some nice collectors models of this one with a carved ivory handle but the ebony (well i think its ebony) handle is great and is a very functional blade IMO. I like it...:D

here it is, after many hours of detailing:

Plus if the image doesn't come up it's because the bandwidth limit is reached.

Nice Kershaw! I have a Valor (Made in the 80's) that's similar.
Yeah, I work with this idiot that likes to sharpen his fine edged knives (mostly Benchmades) with files and a grinding wheel. Then he can't understand why my blades shave hair and his don't. :grumpy:

wow, either you have massive hands or that trooper is a lot smaller than I imagined it to be!
The Kershaw Trooper is a fairly small knife, but very well-made and heavy for its' size. (I've had a couple of 'em through the years, and I traded the last one away shortly after I received it, BECAUSE it was smaller than I thought I remembered it to be.).

that and i have a massive hand, if you look at my avatar now i make a SMLE look like a play toy....i'm about as big as the gene pool makes em' :p. but its a excellent knife now that i finished it, got all damage out and got a great edge going (though if i had a ceramic hone it could be better). but it's not the biggest knife, but i tell ya its mean as with a thick blade...i'm thinking of getting a kydex sheath made so i can wear it diving, anyone know a good place to get a kydex sheath made for this lovely piece?

Oh, so YOU"RE the person who ended up with my Kershaw? I had to use a can opener sharpener to get all those nice scratches on that blade! ;) :D

Just kidding, as I hate to see knives with abuse like that also.

lol, if i find the little punk that totalled it i'll scratch the blade on his hide :p.

Knife abusers serves one great purpose: they use the knife so extensively, it keeps the industry going. Yes it's a shame to trash a good knife, but if the original owner wasn't interested in maintaining collector's value, I don't blame him. He subscribes to the rule that a knife is first and foremost a tool. And if he uses that particular model hard, it only makes the remaining ones in collectible condition that much more valuable. What's the thrill of collecting something that everyone has a copy of anyway? My $0.02.

Good knife that Trooper. I sold mine to a friend after I broke the tip when I stabbed it into a piece of plywood during testing....

I don't hate them, per se, unless they deliberately try to mar one of my knives that they were told is expensive. This happens rarely, as I haven't loaned out a really good knife in over five years. I have an Opinel in my coat pocket for that, and to date, it's scratch free, as well.

I think a knife abuser is just an abuser, period. It's the kind of guy who kicks a door shut, because it belongs to an landlord, or throws trash in your car because he doesn't have to clean it up. Then these idiots bark at you for being too picky.

An idiot is an idiot, and they soon drop out the circuit of people I associate with.

haha :) i have to agree with that...well this wasnt just there to be used, i mean it looked like he'd tried cutting steel with the minor chips along the edge...but hey its in a good usable state now and might make a good diving knife once i work a better scabbard out.

I am an eternal optimist, so I look at it this way. If that moron hadn't taken the liberty of scratching the blade all up, you wouldnt have gotten the knife for the low price you got it.

good point, whats the current going rate for a new one?

Some people dont know how to use a knife properly. They use kitchen knives as screwdrivers and stuff like that "because they couldent find a screwdriver".

Dont worry about it, the knife will usually teach them what NOT to do in time. It might cost them a trip to the ER, but they will learn.

... Cliff Stamp. Cliff doesn't care. He will abuse a knife whether it is meant to be a collectable or not to get whatever data he wants from it. Speaking of which, if Cliff ever became a knifemaker I would buy his knives. I know they would cut well and they would last forever.

It is a beautiful knife. I have one in the presentation case that was given to me by an old SF buddy when I was in the Army. It was made in Jan 80 with a very low serial number. And your right, they do hold an edge...you could perform surgery with this one. Unfortunately it's such a beauty, mine has never cut anything and has rarely been out of the case except to show someone!
