Hey guys,

I am pretty new to sharpening the knifes. I do have Spyderco Tri-angle sharpmaker and it does the great job to my folder knifes and other cutlery with thin blades.

My real problem is now that I am a proud owner of Scrapyard Dogfather, Regulator and S5 ... and those dogs have nice thick blades with the factory edge of I dont know... 50 degree? so sharpmaker cant really do anything with them.

I would like to put a nice edge on them, but I dont want to mess up.

Anyone in Seattle area can set a very nice convex edge on my mutts?

Thank you for your help!

Have you tried the yellow pages? That neck of the woods is chock full of knife people.

I would say it's high time for you to learn how to sharpen. It's well within most peoples ability. It's not duck soup though, so you should start off on some cheap knives, but you will get the hang of it well enough so that you won't damage your good knives in just a few knives. It will probably take longer than that to get screaming sharp knives, but it is way way worth the effort. You will love your knives even more than you do now.

The material list for convex sharpening will run you around $10. All you need is a kinda thin and firm mouse pad, and an assortment of the best wet/dry paper you can find. You will probably find good name brand stuff at an auto parts store. Shop around a little. It pays to find expensive paper. It will cut better and last longer. It usually works best to approximately double the grit, so get something like 200, 400, 800, 1500. There's plenty of information on this forum to help you, or of course, just ask. :D
