It is the steel that most of the Byrd knives use.

A friend of mine just bought a Byrd Crow, and based on how nice it is, especially for the price, I was thinking about picking one up. Was just wondering what the steel was compareable to.

I was given a Byrd Cara Cara as a gift and must say it floored me when I saw the quality of the fit and finish. For the $20 and some change price it has to be one of the better deals out there. I've been carrying it as a beater a little bit. Not enough to really do a thourough review of it just yet but enough to know the steel it has on it ( AKA the Chinese 440C) is better than AUS8A for sure.

0.8% Carbon, 13% Cr with Molybdenum and Vanadium added. Its not bad at all. Had no complains about it. Very solid performer. The Meadowlark is one of my favorites. Really nice little knife!

Thanks guys. I think I will pick up a Raven.

I too was floored by the fit and finish of Byrd knives, based on the one that my friend has anyway. Pretty much figured that unless the steel is absolute crap it is worth the $20.
