Saw this knife the other day and fell in love. Haven't ever seen one in person, don't know anything at all, in fact...internet searches turn up very little...

not personally, but you might want to ask in the errr...automatics forum.

edit :
i do have to say, that looks badazz.

MA is excellant. Owned one and totally kick myself for selling it. Also had a D/A and it was crap. Don't get it but it was. If you can find the 5 in MA grab it. keepem sharp

I really like that knife. It's a great size for edc. I tried my best to work a trade for one at a gun show. Guy wanted cash and I didn't have it at the time. If I spot another and have the money I'ma go for it. -I am partial to Microtechs too. They may be the best knives for your buck.

i have the manual. very useful bladeshape. i improved mine by sanding off all the relatively sharp corners, much better now. it was very hard for me to disengage the lock when it was new, so i used a small handheld beltgrinder (0.5wheel maybe) to make more room, now its perfect. not so pretty anymore but its my allround knife, a user, so i dont really care. dont like the screws, i like the option of opening the knife. decent steel. ive done lots of things with it and it still holds up. i wish it was a little smaller, got small hands. yeah its a cool knife

i have a manual one with carbon fiber handles, satin blade. real nice, perfect fit & finish.i paid about 200.00, had it for over a year.perfect overall.i think newgraham.com may still have some, & you can check bladematrix.com, too....

How can I tell if they're manual or auto? I don't have any desire for an Auto, and it sounds like there are some problems anyway...

Is bladematrix reliable?

In the pic you posted, do you see the edge of the small circle under the cutout portion of the pocket clip? The cutout is pressed down and a little nub hits that button to open the knife automatically. My guess is that the MA models would not have that button under the clip, but I don't know it for a fact since I've only ever seen/handled the DA versions.

Nice looking knife! I'd bet it's pretty comfortable with the contour of the grips.

What's the blade length?

I thought the same about the pocket clip/auto button, but the main site that has them is bladematrix, and unfortunately, they haven't the photos. Probably not a shot in hell of finding one in a real store (much less affording it)

So is this guy worth a cool 215 US?

Looks like CF is way more common than micarta. No biggie.

yeah another thing, when you decide to get one, you better be sure about what bladefinish you want since you cant open it.. mine is green but a couple of months ago i really wanted a polished one.. but now green is ok again. so make sure you get the right one from the start :D

Its a spectacular knife. Fit and finish like a custom. If you can get it in CF better still. I have the MTX2 (manual) and haven't found anything close to it in a production grade knife. The price will make more sense when you have it in your hands. Good luck with your descision! :D

I have MTX d/a as daily user, well , it's been about 1.5 years , and it's really worth the price , great knife overall

The CMTX-5 was a new-production version of the (Butch) Vallotton Chamelon.

There was problems with early runs of the CMTX-5 autos where the sear (the chunk of metal that holds the spring in place ready to fire) wasn't properly heat treated and wore extremely quickly, causing it to fire on its own and/or not stay closed. Is seems that even though they fixed the problem, the market soured (combined with MT's mediocre customer service) and the knife was discontinued. Bummer, because I always thought the carbon fiber handled satin or 2-tone versions were dead sexy.

What I really want to know is what ever happened to the VMTX-7. Now that knife was sexy.
