Anyone know anything about the "Masters of Defense" kinives?

While there might be some members out there with more actual use experience with the MOD's.I have owned and handled both MOD and Microtech auto's and find them very close to the same quality.MOD makes some nice heavy duty, reasonably priced production knives.I think you would be very happy with any of the MOD choices.Chow,Ralph

I have a MOD hornet. Good quality, good lockup, great handle. Only thing is that it came with some discoloration on the pivot pin screw that was covered up with black marker

Also I have been noticing that the edge gets very small chips after I use it for light duty like cutting plastic. Maybe its just mine or I sharpened it too thin cause plastic is suppose to be hard on knives. 25 degrees on a lansky which is more like 20 degrees. For some reqson mine had a soft ballistic nylon shealth instead of the kydex one on the MOD site. Overall not a bad knife.

I have the Tempest and it is a great knife. Very similar quality to my DA Socom though the blade on the MOD isn't nearly as sharp but that could be just this individual blade. Great knives overall and I would love to get my hands on one of their cases that has all the production models together! Best of luck!

I have a standard Trident (not auto), and think that the quality is up there with MT and other top production folders. The fit and finish are nearly flawless, and it was shaving sharp out of the box. I haven't used it for any cutting tasks, so I don't know about durability.Based on this one knife, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one.

"Always just one knife short of perfection!"

I just picked up a Hornet on trade. It's a nice knife with a very solid liner lock. It passed my spine whack test with no problem. The embedded rubber give the aluminum handle great grip, and you get a great, deep throated ker-thunk when you flick it open. My hand is medium sized, and just a hair too big for the handle. In a natural grip, my middle finger rests right on the point between the two finger grooves. I find myself moving my hand forward so that my first finger actually hangs over the front edge of the handle. Not very safe for stabbing, but just fine for whittling! I think the handle would be very comfortable for a woman or small handed man. The blade is thick and wide. It looks it could take lots of abuse without suffering. The serrations are very aggressive in rope and cardboard.

But ... it wasn't all that sharp. In fact, the edge had a burr! Knocking it off improved the edge, ovbiously, but it's still not "hair popping" sharp. Hair scraping, yes, but not hair popping. Also, the grind lines aren't symmetrical! There's a full 1/10 inch difference where the grind lines meet the spine. That makes absolutely no difference performance wise but you expect a little better from a company that claims to hold manufacturing tolerances to within one ten thousandth of an inch.

I like it more than my BM705. Hope this helps.

Ouch! Dang, that's sharp!

I own a MOD Dieter CQD and am currently waiting on my Auto CQD. I have also owned a MOD Trident Auto. All of these are top quality and on par with Microtech, but priced like Benchmade. For some reason they don't have as large a following as the previous two, but I am definitely hooked. I will be buying the rest of the line as time permits. I highly recommend them!! Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new MOD.

Just got my Trident auto. Solid auto with Liner Lock, sharp, came with nylon sheath, as well as installed pocket clip. I am looking to get a Dieter CQD, but too pricey for my wallet now... Maybe later...
I'm impressed with all of the MOD knives that I've held. A little on the high priced side, but it has beenmy experience that with quality, you get what you pay for.
