Anyone know grafting knives?

Okay, the only thing I do with plants is put them in a bowl, cover them with balsamic vinegar and start forking. But I recently received a Victorinox grafting knife, a chisel-ground sheepsfoot/wharncliffe looking deal (which I just noticed is ground left handed, but what do I care?), and that got me looking at the rest of these knives:

There's a lot of overlap, but there's a couple that are only one color.

Anyway, would someone out there mind giving me a summary of what some of these shapes are for, or pointing me somewhere I can find out? Naturally I can't have a knife without knowing everything about it, and I'm maybe interested in picking up a couple of these, too.

There are some flat out funky looking designs on those pages, and I'd love to know what they're for. For instance, is my knife, which looks like a 3.9050, supposed to be ground this way, or do I have a left handed version? All I know so far is what I've said, and that it's a darn fine utility knife, and is an absolutely incredible value buy.

Thanks a bunch,

Your chisel grind is probably a right-hander. I think the grind is for bark grafting, which is for smaller plants 1-1 1/2 inches in diameter. There's whip grafting, tongue grafting, bark grafting, cleft grafting. The fact that there are knives specifically for these jobs is news to me, all I've ever used was a Schrade Stockman or an Opinel!

James, you might want to check out Levine's Guide to Knives Vol. 4. He has a page about horticultural knives that might interest you. The blade designs on the SAK page are all traditional and probably originated centuries ago and were very popular on English made folders since the 19th. century. It's nice to know that SAK has continued the tradition!
Frank, the website you referenced is great! Probably the only site on the internet that shows ASEXUAL propagation!
