ok so what i got here is just a normal folding lockback knife. and when the blade locks back the blade has a little bit of play, it wiggles back and forth a tiny bit when it is locked back. how do i fix this? thanks guys.

you can peen the pivot pin down a little at a time until you get it tight. if you have any other problems with the knife, a member that goes by bill deshivs can help you out a lot.

A pic of the knife would be very helpful. OR, at least a specific description of the make & model. Assuming side-to-side play, and NOT up-down:

If it's a solid metal-bolstered knife (brass, nickel or stainless) with a pinned pivot (not screwed), a very gentle, careful squeeze in a vise might snug it up. Wrap the bolster in leather or heavy fabric, sandwich it between a couple pieces of wood in the vise, then VERY GENTLY snug the vise down on it. A tiny squeeze at a time, re-check the play frequently, so as not to overdo it. It's very easy to make it too tight, if you're overly aggressive with it.

This actually works well with un-bolstered knives too (such as Delrin/wood-handled sodbusters). It's an especially common fix for these, as they're known for loosening up. There are some plastic/nylon-handled lockbacks out there, with peened/riveted pins for the pivot (such as the old Bucklite series, or some older Spydercos, with FRN handles). I don't know if this technique would work well with those.

If it's the knife below, have you tried to tighten the pivot screw?

no it wiggles up and down. like the lock is not big enough to stop the blade all the way or something.

Sounds like the liner lockbar is either too short, or bent too far in. If it's bent too far in, it's not easy to bend it back, with risking weakening it.

Buck's warranty & customer service is usually pretty good for issues like that. Especially on current generation knives like the Alpha (they likely have parts for it). A loose linerlock might be relatively easy for them to fix. Might give them a call & ask (politely, of course) what they might be able to do.
