Anyone Know How To Remove Ink Stains From A Shirt ?

Damn, last night I was writing some stuff in my notepad and in my absent mindedness I forgot to cap my pen when I clipped it onto the front of my shirt, you know, the area like two buttons down, I have a habit of putting my pen there, and its one of those pilot pens with that really watery ink, and it royally stained my shirt. I managed to catch it in time and use some stuff to get most of it out, but theres still a few smudges in it that are pretty noticable. Am I stuck with this, or is there something I can use to get the rest of it out ? Sorry for sounding all mama's boyish or whatever, but well, my mom gave me this shirt and I really want to save it. Anyone know what I can use for a second wash to get the rest of that ink out ?

I was going to suggest a knife, but that's not real help. ;)

How about sending it to a dry cleaner? They are pros at doing stuff like this and likely your best bet at success.

That oxy-clean stuff really works wonders, make some into a paste and work it into the stain, I haven't used it on ink but I was amazed when it cleaned soy sauce out of a dress shirt.

With color clothes pat down some Clorox 2 on the ink stain. If it's a white shirt then Clorox is your best bet. I've got all the other stain removers and even though Purple Power is awesome I wouldn't reccomend it for the washer. Use the Clorox 2 and just let it sit on the stain for a few minutes and wash.

I second the oxyclean suggestion. It has really saved me lots of time. Once was in the middle of the night and i just bought Pepsi blue for the first time and i brought it into my mom's TV room where she had nice white carpet throughout. Well, i spilt the whole bottle and i had to use oxyclean to clear it up. The only thing she noticed was the carpet was wet but there was no stain.

I've also used it to get turmeric stains off my white t-shirt. Gets blood off well too.

ya know, women here in the office swear hairspray works... but given the dearth of hair on my head... I don't have any to experiment with... :(

I've heard that too. Rubbing alcohol is good to take makeup off the collar of your shirt believe it or not.

Go to the supermarket and pick up a Spray 'N Wash Stick. It's like a giant chapstick. Rub it on the stain and throw the shirt in the hamper; wash it when you get around to it.

That ink is watery because it's water-based. As a result, it should wash out with soap and water. But do it quickly!

Try askjeeves.com they sent me to a stain removal site that was great. I had a large mustard stain on a teal colored carpet :barf: It started to turn green, but with a little work it came out. Good luck.

I use Go-Jo.

(Mechanics hand soap with pumice.)

Works very well on just about every stain imaginable.

Sorry Cougar, that stuff is so-so. Smooth Operator get that Clorox 2 and yes it is expensive but you do want your mom to be a happy lady when she sees you in that shirt. :)

Dead serious, buy a new shirt. Start using that for working outside, excercise etc.

Yep - hairspray works. Spray it good so the stain is soaked with hairspray and then wash it while it is still wet.

I washed it again but this time used a tide stick as well as this stuff called "Texas Magic" (?) and well, there are slight greyish marks there, not too noticable unless you try and look, but there's just one problem: theres a little logo on the right side of it, and I think the chemicals pretty much ate up some of the paint or whatever on there  Just flipping great. Well I guess I'm going to have to go with SilentHunterStudios and buy a new shirt. Crap, this was one of my best short sleeve shirts. Hope it's not too expensive to replace.
