Anyone know if there are fake ZT0450s around?

I found a used one, no box or papers, and would like to be sure it is legitimate. I figure I can go handle a real one to get more familiar with the model before I meet the guy, but I’d like to know what you all think. Please let me know if they are faked and/or what to look for when I check it out. Thanks.

found as in 'found' or found as in bought? If you paid for it, esp if it was well below market price I'd be suspicious. I'd expect the likelyhood of ZT knockoffs to be high. Do your due diligence. 99% of legit used ZT would have boxes/official papers etc.

“Found” as in identified it, but have not bought it. Guy says it was a display model from his old business.

Easy solution (in my thought process), if it's under x% of regular price, I'd avoid it.
If it's near the regular price, I'd just buy a new one from a known reputable vendor.

So in either case, it looks like avoiding it is the safer option.

The only slight grey area is the x% value... I'd expect most ZTs sold on the BF forums are not more than 20% less than retail... even if they are 'users' (some more experienced BF members can correct me if I'm wrong). I don't pretend to have grasp of the resale value for ZTs, but my expectation is they hold their original price value fairly well

If it's 50% off... then it falls into the 'if it's too good to be true...' category (imho)

Can't always go by price you have to actually know the model and compare real to fakes.

Iv'e gotten knives at the flea market many times way below market value and got suspicious of fakes when it was just the seller unaware of what they have. I've also seen those old guys selling guns with counterfeits. Sometimes they tell you sometimes they don't.

caveat emptor

Haven't heard of any fake ones yet.
Neither have I, and nor do any pop up on the websites that usually sell them.

If it is a used floor model good thing you are looking in person. I'd worry way more about the condition on a display model than if it is a fake, especially as these aren't being faked right now. This model isn't terribly expensive new, so for a used example that potentially thousands of people have handled, I'd expect a descent amount off from new.

You've said a lot here, without knowing if this model is known to be faked.

Where are these fakes to compare to? Are you aware of any fake 450s? I'm not.

craytab, there are commonly many many zt knockoffs from certain Chinese websites. I just searched for a 450 and I couldn't find any today. But the nature of these 'shops' on the aggregate Chinese site is such that they commonly pop up for a few days, then pop up as another store name.

I just did a search and found a whole bunch of these zt models being knocked off & available today: 095, 350, 392, 427, 456, 562, 566, 606, 770, 801, 804, 808, 920, 999
I'm certain I've seen 450s in the past. Likely will see them in the future. I'd provide links but it's against the rules, and I'm sure you could find them if you looked around.
I'm honestly surprised you were not aware of how common zt fakes are.

I'm quite aware about how the knock off ZT thing works. I've not seen a 450. You gave a lot of advice, much of which was not good. Not sure why you are still responding, especially now under the assumption I don't know about ZT knock offs. I mean, you yourself said you don't know about ZT values. I've bought and sold a ton of them. You're the one with the knock off spartan, and even defended the purchase. Not sure anyone should be listening to your advice on the counterfeit subject.

Well, I looked over a "real one" at a store, and went to look at the one for sale this morning. The one for sale looked and felt (and flipped) exactly like the one at the store. The guy said he was a ZT dealer, and based on the stuff at his house, I believe him. So, I'm the proud owner of a ZT0450 for the princely sum of $100.

Congrats! Good deal as well.
