I'd certainly check out an Army Surplus (as Diamond Cut mentioned)..., before other sources.

Around here.., they all have tons of it.., and it's very inexpensive because they buy so much.

u-braid-it sent me 12" samples of every color I expressed intrest in. That was pleanty to create lanyards for the knives I wanted them for. I am sure I lucked out, but they hooked me up for free :D

sportsmansguide.com advertises a 300 ft. roll for $15.00, or check cheaperthandirt.com

I got a few 3000' spools from them along with some shorter spools. Good price, Good turn araound time, Good Communication.

Get the real stuff before you buy the cheap knockoff crap. You will be happy you did later.

Somebody on ebay is always selling the stuff (it's not me :) ). I was looking for tan mil-spec paracord and had a good experience with the seller. A few retailers have even upped the price of tan over black and OD lately  .

I've only found true 7-inner strand mil-spec 550 cord in black, OD, tan, and white.

I got some Blackhawk 550 and it seems to be good stuff. Not as cheap as the other ones listed above, but I only needed a hundred feet, and not thousands of feet. Blackhawk is a known quantity to me. :D
