Hi,

I got so inspired by something that came up in the thread below that I feel I gotta put it into action:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/909236-Ever-loan-a-knife-out-just-to-see-how-messed-up-it-comes-back

The thread was about how people ruin your knives when you lend them out,
which spawned a comment by holymolar (thanks man!) which made me wanna do something about this typical problem.
If you just get a bunch of cheap little folding knives to give away (no non-knife-person will keep carrying a fixed blade),
you'll never need to lend your fancy blades out at work or whatever, because you can just GIVE them a cheap folder which they can keep!
So, I'd basically always have a few of them in my bag or something, to give away.

It could be something like an Opinel No.2, Byrd Finch or Spyderco Honeybee or something like that;
but, obviously cheaper (but still OK quality), cuz I'm giving them to friends, family and coworkers; but I'm not made of money.

Does anyone know of any nice little folding knives that would fit the bill?

Any help would be much appreciated, as I'm gonna do this for sure.

Any of the Spyderco bug line would fit. As you get to $1-5 dollars, the quality decreases very much so.

That is a great suggestion, but it needs to be cheaper (wanna get like 30 of them at least). I understand that it is a trade-off on quality, but it won't really matter to the non-knife people who will be receiving them. It's just a cool little gift (with an agenda of it's own :D).

The Frost one was a good example (thanks) and the Vic Classic is a nice choice as well, although tedious to acquire such quantities for this type of price. Any more suggestions? I would so have gone for the Frost one if it had a regular pocket clip instead of the carabiner.

There are some small SanRenMu models that sell for $3-$5 when bought in bulk. Same quality and steel as the Byrd knives.

If you really, really don't care about quality and just want to hand folks something unused that they can fiddle with for a few times, you could buy one of these. I imagine it'll cut tape or twine a handful of times before "needing to be sharpened"...

I know a guy that I belive has them for A $1.00 each plus shipping. I will see him thursday and I will ask him for you. He sales them out at A flemarket.

If the OP is really in Sweden, then advice and pricing by Americans is useless.

I'd go with no less than one of the cheap /china made Spydercos, such as the Bug. I've got the medium sized one (HOney Bee, I think) that I use on my keys sometimes, and I actually prefer it to the Ladybug, as it's thinner and blends in with the keys better. -Used to have the smaller Bug too. I haven't used either too much, but they can take an edge, and seem to hold up very well to keychain use. If not that, you might find a Victorinox Classic cheap if you look around enough. It's a nicer knife with more features, but it's bulkier with the keys, but still light.

I picked up a dozen little key chain knives from another dealer at a gun show a month or so ago. Cost me 50 cents each. Sold them for a dollar each. Not bad for that price. Don't know where he got them. Probably from some import outfit.

Hi stoffi -

Last year at Christmas time, I found Bugs for $5 each. I ordered 15 of them and gave them away as you describe.

They are just right in terms of quality, they come sharp enough to pop hairs, and the people I have given them too still carry them daily (the ones that I see daily, anyway).

Another choice may be to pick up a lot of TSA confiscations on the bay - you can get a "lot" of Victorinox Classics - they are used but you can clean them up and give a quality knife rather than what I think you could get new for a dollar.

best regards -

Yeah I would say to try that E b-y auction site and look under wholsale lots . you should be able to get some little knives there for about 1$ or 2$ each .

Go to that auction site. Type in "knife lots" and have them listed by cheapest first. I don't know which dealer ships overseas, but you'll get hundreds of choices at your price.

Or post "knife lots classics" and you can get SAK classics in batches for 2-3 dollars apiece.
