I have read threads, but nothing real specific. I have read others state it is okay as long as it is being transported from sporting events..i.e. fishing, hunting, etc. But for us obviously not coming back from the jungle.. are there any specific laws that you guys now of in NJ? Or is it just alot more vagueness that NJ leaves up to the interpretation of the officer?

Hi. Thanks for the link. I saw one more abbreviated. Seems pretty open ended.

Noob question.. is something like a Vex or Sog Vision considered a "gravity knife"?

I'm not a lawyer or LEO but my guess it that it would be how the police interpret the law. If the pivot screw was loose enough to let the blade swing, then it might be considered a "gravity knife". I never have any of my folders adjusted that loose, just in case.

If you really want to get the low-down on NJ Law than you need to contact Evan Nappen. Evan is not only a lawyer, he is a certified Knife Knut and he lives in NJ! I had the distinct honor of meeting Evan while returning from the Blade Show a few years ago. We had a nice discussion on the knife laws in NJ.
