I took some pics of an awesome custom knife my uncle had made from an Elk he took in Northern Canada, the Sheath and the handle are from the elk.

Does anyone know the maker of this knife? The Initials look like "HL" and they are on both the Sheath and the Brass fittings of the knife also there is a V.V. on one side of the Brass guard.

My uncle got this knife made in the early 90's, it has been used to skin a couple moose and elk and is still shaving sharp.

Thanks!

The knife in the other thread looks almost identical to the one my uncle has, that's awesome!

Heinz Leber is from the town Hudson's Hope, British Columbia, CANADA. Several years ago he had a very serious stroke, and no longer makes knives.

I have a Heinz Leber knife. Elk handle, elk carved in the brass"tang"? My lingo is not so good. Anyway I happened across his shop when I was driving from Alaska. Unbeleivable! Knives, swords etc. Really a master metal smith. I seem to remember the shop and house being local logs, just beautiful and I took no pictures, go figure. I still have the business card and probably have a small catalogue somewhere. I bought the knife later over the phone not that day. Just had to have one. Paid around $350 American. The blade was made from a sawmill blade I think, went all the way to the back of the handle. Heinz told me never store it in the sheath, it would pit the blade.

I have one of his knives. My uncle gave it to me in 1988. If I remember correctly it was made with M2 steel.

Typical sawmill blade might be 5160.
M2 is a tool steel . Two very different steels.
