Other side of tang is stamped Rostfrei Solingen. Im pretty sure Rostfrei means stainless but no clue who the maker is. Any input would be much appreciated.

The mark was used by Hoffritz starting sometime around 1992.
Hoffritz was a large importer / retailer based in NYC with more than 100 locations across the US. Who the actual maker of this knife was.....who knows. The picture provided doesn't even show the knife....

Hoffritz
The exact details are difficult to track down but that would be a good place to start.

This is one thing that Goins got wrong. It is not Hoffritz. This tang stamp is used by Friedrich Hartkopf.

Otherwise it would be hard to explain the F H initials. Hoffritz was founded by Edwin Jay Hoffritz in New Jersey. Perhaps the confusion on Goins' part was that maybe Hoffritz imported Hartkopf knives and that was the only place they were seen for sale in the US (just guessing here).

Interesting to note that Goins does not even list Friedrich Hartkopf, despite the fact that it has been a well known brand in Germany and dates to 1890.
