I am in the market for a knife that has a blade 3 inches or shorter due to campus rules. The other day i saw a spyderco knife that had a blade around that size and am wondering if anyone can help me identify it. The most distinctive feature on it was the gently curved blade(cutting edge was the outside of the cure) and the blade handle that looked skeletonized. Could anyone give me the name of this knife?

sounds like the Spyderco ATR to me.

It would probably be easiest to go to the Spyderco site, or another knife company website, and look. If your knife isn't currently in production, then you probably won't find the picture, but it would give you an idea of what's available.

My recommendations (not necessarily the knife you saw) would be a Delica, Native, or Dodo, but Spyderco has lots of excellent stuff in the <3" range.

Skeletonized handles... could it be the cutouts in the Almite Navigator's handles?

The Almite Navigator! I went back and got it yesterday. Thinking i wouldn't back for a while, i purchased a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian. But i was able to go back yesterday with some buddies, but one of them a knife for his birthday, and the Almite Navigator for me. IT's a GREAT knife. Strong, sturdy, and handles well. Does anyone else have one? And what is "Almite", a special metal? Thanks for the help guys.

ive got a navigator and have found it to be a very good knife. i had a few problems early on, mainly with very precise slot grinds but it has been a constant companion since i smoothed them out.
the VG10 blade is razor sharp and holds an edge very nicely. the handle is comfortable and gives good leverage.
the best thing about the knife, IMO, is that it is small enough to fit in the change pocket of my slacks but sturdy enough to carry for outside chores.

Congratulations on your new knife.
The handles are made out of aluminum and almite is a coating. Pretty scratch resistant, but it will wear off and chip in time, as you'll see. :( There is also an Almite version without the vents in the handles. More weight but less pocket lint. ;)
But as I dislike aluminum, I preffer by far the G-10 model. Yes, it was a G-10 batch made too :)
I think the Navigator was discontinued to make room for the Meerkat. Another cool little knife.

Almite is a special coating that is applied to what is otherwise relatively normal 6061-T6 "Aircraft Grade" Aluminum Alloy, the same stuff used in knives like Microtechs and Masters of Defense knives or several popular Benchmade models. Fine handle material, if a bit more pricey than many synthetics (especially Zytel).
