Does anyone have any idea what this wood is? The only thing I know about it is it is fairly hard and smells like a dirty diaper when I grind it :p

That looks like a good guess to me! I figured if I was making a handle with it I may as well try and find out what it is

It also looks like it could be a light cocobolo, although the grain is a little porous. Mainly I say this because the grain pattern and colors look about right, and I've noticed that cocobolo really STINKS when worked.

I got some wood very similar to that, except that it's more reddish color. It doesn't float, and the pores are white in some places. Very hard! Smells like cat pee when you're grinding it. I never have figured out what it is. Table saw blades spark and overheat when cutting it.

It looks like sucupira.
The smell is like dog crap when you grind it.......no kidding. The wood has a distinctive chatoyancy when viewed from the side grain and a speckled look from the end grain. Leaning into it when sanding and buffing will darken it a lot, especially the end grain.
It is a Brazilian hardwood and very tough. They make floors out of it.

Looks like a dead ringer for jatoba to me, but I don't recall that smell...jatoba is another South American wood that is widely used for flooring, it is often called Brazilian cherry.

could be Cumaru or Ipe also, although the color looks more like cumaru, they're both very grainy like that, but the ipe tends to have some funky color to the grain, although there are many varieties of Ipe, so I'm sure it varries. They're both brazillian hardwoods like the one Stacy mentioned. Dipteryx Odorata and Tabebuia Spp.

Sucupira and the others mentioned are all similar, and are sometimes called by the wrong name. Sucupira is called Brazilian Chestnut.

Aye I've heard of Ipe being referred to as Brazilian Walnut, and Cumaru, as Brazilian Teak.

Generally speaking, there's a lot of confusion about these woods and the numerous similar relatives..

So what does Bocote smell like when you grind it? Out of all of them so far, it looks most like bocote to me
