On one side of the blade it says:

Solingen
Stainless

On the other, it has a fist holding three arrows.

It's been lying in my father's shop for years. Someone gave it to him. I'll admit, it's in pretty bad shape, but I just now decided to fix it up.

So, any clues?

My mistake... "Solingen Germany" not Stainless.

Disco, I would go over to Bernard Levines site and post this. Mr. Levine is an authority on this type of question. Hope this helps.

i dunno what it is,but it all sounds very familiar.the logo aespecially sounds familiar.lemme know if you find out.

MAURICE, when I asked my father about it we both said the same thing:

"The logo seems very familiar, I just can't place it."

Strange.

I probably seems familiar because an eagle holding arrows and leaves is a symbol of our country

I bet that is an Emil Voos knife! Looks just like mine. Do a search in Levine's forum under Emil Voos--lots of companies have Solingen stamped on them but I'd be darn if that didn't look like the 2 knives I have especiall around the handle.

My two knives have similar stag handles and butt caps.

Thanks guys. I've posted 're over at Mr. Levine's forum.

KurtisKurt,
I would love to post it at messerforum.net but the only German I know is what I learned in an Introduction to Foreign Languages class in highschool. In other words, not nearly enough.

Kodiak PA,
I guess it could be anything. It is fairly old because my father has had it since before I've been born (over 18 years ago) at least. Has a bit of a story behind it too. The man that gave it to my dad wanted to be rid of it because his son stabbed a guy with it in a bar fight and got locked away. At least that's how I remember hearing it. I'm glad I'm not very superstitious or I'd probably not be able to work on it.

You know, I don't really know. I've never owned a real stag handled knife but I don't think it's plastic. It has no trace of seems on the sides where cheap plastic would have them nor can I scratch it with my fingernail, which is a thing I can do on most plastic knives. I took my dremel tool to the handle shortly with a buffing wheel and it didn't blacken and goo up, so I don't think it's plastic.

Does anyone have a good test to determine what it is?

Do a "hot pin" test. Take a common sewing needle or pin and heat it up red hot. Find an inconspicuous place on the handle and press the hot pin to it. Burning plastic smells like, well, burning plastic. Natural materials, like bone and stag, smell like burning hair or fingernails.
