Emerson's new CQC8 and Super CQC8 only use titanium on the lock side. Anyone know when they switched to steel?

It's a classic business strategy. First a company builds a reputation with a good product and then, once the word gets out, it starts cutting corners to increase profits.

Yeah.......ok. The fact that the price of titanium went up had nothing to do with it, right?

So you don't think they could have passed on the $5 added expense on to the customer (on a $300 knife), instead of reducing their costs and keeping the price the same (effectively RAISING the price and their profit)? Nice try though.

The change was on non-locking liner and there is no impact to the performance or reliability of Emerson knives. It is simple economics. Also, you will see varying thicknesses of the liners, typically the lock side liners. Some folks prefer the thick liners, but it really makes no difference.

I believe the change was made in 2007.

That's what I'm assuming since I'm going to get one anyway (though I am a little disappointed in this development).

I guess im not feeling your aggravation since there seems to be a decent difference between a custom Emerson and a production anyways and what the non locking liner side is made of is the least of it.
