does anyone know where I can get a mil-k (us gi issue pocket) knife dated prior to 1996 in mint condition? Ive tried ebay, but they go for ridiculous prices there.

thanks,
John

I'm just curious. Why pre-1996 ? Do you already have the more recent ones and are collecting the older, or are you looking for changes in the companies making the MILK? One thing to try is to look in Surplus stores, since the inventory hangs around a while.

The reason I want 1996 or prior is due to the time I was active duty AF until 1996 when I was discharged for disability (health probs from desert shield/storm). I use to have a few of the mil-k knives, but they have been gone for quite some years. Its for nostalgic, and collector purposes, mostly nostolgic though. I have looked at many surplus store, but the ones i find are newer dated.

HI rev, I'd like to help but I'm not sure what a "mil-k" knife that you're asking about looks like. Can you describe it in more detail or can someone post a picture?

It's the all steel military four blade utility pocketknife (blade, can opener, punch, screwdriver/caplifter). I think Camillus is still making the current ones. Anyone know?

Yes raptor that is what Im looking for. The problem run into is the newer dates.

Oh yeah, one of those. I still have mine from prior military service but it's not for sale. You'd think that there should be a bunch of those older ones in the market at a decent price being that they're so inexpensive brand new.

Mine is so "cherry" that the springs are really tough. It will break long nails everytime. While on duty I preferred a TL-29 (Electrian's knife) for its locking screwdriver.

I agree the knife's value today is more for nostalgia since a multi-tool is alot more functional.

rev_jch,
I understand your problem. Finding one of these in "mint - new/old" with the year requirements will be a little difficult. Unless someone here knows someone who knows someone who's willing to sell their's then your probably just going to have to keep an eye open for this one. I'd be looking at flea markets if it were me. That's probably a good source for this type of knife.
Of coarse you can maybe convince "toothed" to fess up his knife for the cause!?! Tell him that you're just thinking of his nails.:D Maybe he'll go for that!?!;)

Raptor lol!@!!!
hmmmmmm....no I could'nt ask toothed to do that. He would eventually be in my shoes looking for another!

I'll just keep looking and perhaps get lucky some day. I remember when I was in the AF I prefered my leatherman and spyderco standard to the old metal knife!!!! When I was in Desert Shield/Storm the bus we were taking from Mcguire AFB broke down on the way to Dover AFB to hop a 141 overseas. They asked if anyone had any pliers to fix the bus and I offered my leatherman (which up to that point the guys I was stationed with had made fun of me for having, we were not issued these yet). In about 15 minutes we were on our way again!!! from that day forward I was called "plier man".

Hi "plier man" ...er, rev. That's a nice story about your leatherman. More and more I'm beginning to think that it's more practical to carry a multi-tool as an edc instead of a single-blade knife. (I can't decide so I carry both).

I may be showing my age but I know that the Camillus I was issued is dated 1970 or earlier (I don't have it nearby right now). On another note: Damn the nails--I'm keeping the knife. ;)

You might try a "want to buy" post in the exchange section of the forums. Good luck.

Toothed,
Ive allready tried the exchange with no bites!!!

Thanks for the idea though, I do appreciate it!!! :)

well Im finally getting one! Tom Willaims @ Camillus found one for me out of a salesmans display!!! :D
