...this or something similar in the US?

I've been thinking about getting a hibachi for car camping but this thing would be much cooler given it can be used as a wood stove/heater for your shelter. Maybe an easy how to homemade hobo stove that can use charcoal for a cheap alternative.

Haven't seen one here, but I like the design...maybe I should draw one up and get the parts laser cut along with some other things and put it together myself.

What about a sterno folding stove?

I'm primarily looking for something to grill on with charcoal or wood. I'm even considering those little grill "baskets" that I've seen Japanese cooks use instead of a flat grill. That would probably be the best lightweight version just put your meat in and hang over fire.

Edit: Something like this.

Look at a Fire Pan. It's used primarily for whitewater rafting, where you have to pack your ashes out so as not to contaminate the beaches and the river. They can get pretty expensive but extremely high quality and elaborate. It's basically a 6 inch deep pan with a fold-over grilling rack for coffee, steaks (I used it mostly for spiced rum spiked apple cider) etc. I'll get a brand name for you tonight.

AHA! Should have gone straight to NRS. Made right here in Boise, and NRS has an ESEE style you break it we replace it warranty. A buddy threw a dead Single Barrel soldier on it one night to sweat the last few drops out and wound up letting it melt.... the fire was so hot it burnt a hole right through the pan. He sent it back to NRS and 3 days later had a new one on his porch. Great company.

Those things are pricey! I'de try and build something myself first. Lately, I've had something like this in mind. Not necessarily alcohol, but made from (clean) paint cans. I'm not sure, but I think there is a how-to article in the latest backwoodsman.

I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering . . . . what the heck is a "single barrel soldier"?

Car camping, lodge cast iron sportsman grill hibatchi. Big enough for longer wood for campfire effect. I also have an old school cast iron one about a foot square.

Take a look at www.kellykettle.com

I have one and they work fine!

what about one of these

I just picked one up, you can get one used for 17 bucks, I did and I can't tell the difference, it looks brand new....

Also, this is a great guy, I saw yesterday where he was offering his stoves to anyone on active duty with the U.S. Armed Forces for the cost of shipping only. Guys like that deserve our support IMO.
