Anyone knows if this is indeed a HI?

Sure looks like HI to me, I couldn't find a close up good enough to see markings. Has some engraving up by the backstrap.

Almost looks like a Foxy Folly but my eye isn't as finely tuned as some others around here.

It does look like a FF Bawanna, good call. Probably 18" cuz the blade looks longer than my 16.5". I was originally thinking Dui or Yek Chirra, but after that comment, I agree with Foxy Folly. The engraving on the spine was throwing me, and though I've never seen one like that, I can picture that on a FF much more than one of the X Chirra models.

Need some detailed still pics. Not to sure if it's a FF, it could be. The handle and the drop doesn't look curved enough. My 2 cents. The belly also doesn't look deep enough either.

With that relatively thin spine, it reminds me of a Trisuli Ghaule - one of Bawanna's (many) favorites!

I hate seeing him trying to baton it through the kindling so far down the blade, O well hes just a nipper I guess , he will learn in time.

Funny Mr. Tall, that was my first thought as well and it could very well be.

It is indeed my favorite. I took it to Aunties for show and tell last trip, it has that same engraving and a satin/brushed finish.

This one might just be a larger version of it.
Don't see many of them show up.
I totally agree with spiral as usual too, it was painful to watch some of that. I didn't have time to watch the whole thing but enough that I knew I'd seen enough.

I left him a little comment on youtube telling him how good his first youtube video was. I also gave him a warning about chopping into the dirt... told him to use a stump. He is just a kid and is learning... I also let him know his handle is horn and not bone.

Looks pretty much identical to my early Foxy Folly, but that engraving is different - guess it's a trisuli ghaule.

I didn't watch any more of the video. Spiral's description was enough for me.:(

Haha GB, you shoulda just pointed him to the stickies here. There were too many things wrong with that video for me to do much more than to cringe while skipping through it :)

I'll have to look for a pic of this Trisuli Ghaule y'all are talkin bout. I feel so out-of-the-loop all the sudden

Edit: OK, found some pics, and I'm officially casting my vote for the Trisuli Ghaule as the blade in the video.

This was posted by Bawanna, Trisuli Ghaule is the middle blade

And in this thread, post 14

I gotta work on getting them stains off my bench. Unsightly as heck.

I do love that Trisuli Ghaule. Thin and light, super nice. I love em all of course but that one stands out along with my bestest Thamar Curved Spine among others. I am such a lucky fella.

As for the marks - Here's my contribution - I watched it frame by frame and captured the bests.

Rajkumar made it. I'm leaning toward Steve Talls Trisuli Ghaule prediction more and more.

He also made mine.

Interesting, thank you gents. Excellent work, this is some Sherlock Holmes-level stuff!

I cringed a few times, but in the end I saw a kid very happy with a blade that withstood quite some abuse.

Bawanna, I do like that middle khuk in the pic and that campy bone handle is cool, too.

Middle is the Trisuli Ghaule. It's thin, maybe 1/4", light. Feels awesome in hand.
No way I'd attack a wood pile with it like the kid that started this but it's comforting to know it can handle it if needed.
I got a couple chopper AK's that would get picked long before the Trisuli but it's a swell knife. A favorite for sure.

Sorry, I shoulda noted that in the post. I'll edit that.

I'm pretty sure the Trisuli Ghaule is now at the top of my "Buy without hesitation" list

Truth be told and taking into consideration my memory or lack thereof I don't recall seeing another since I got that one. I'm sure it was a DOD, only custom I ever ordered was my personalized Katunji (Aunties Knife) second only to Bookies personalized katunji.

Should definitely be on the Kamis to do list when the time and situations allow. It's an awesome knife.

Does anyone know what is the difference between a Foxy Folly and a Trisuli Ghaule, apart from the engraving along the side of the TG near the spine? I have a pair of FFs, but no TG to compare.

Based on the above pictures, both blades are relatively thin (by HI standards), same wide blade profile, same wide fullers, same handle. Maybe the Foxy Folly blade is a little wider, but it's hard to tell from the photos.

Added later: OK, I did a web search to find more info. It does look like the TG blade is not quite as wide as the FF. Also, some of the TGs are much heavier than the FFs. I found one posting of a TG by Yangdu that was more than 2 oz per inch (20" length and 42 oz). So that probably answers my question.
