Anyone laminated bone?

I need some thick, flat, bone slabs. They need to be about 3/4" thick.

I don't think I've ever cut a bone that gave me a slab large enough for that. The thought occurred to me that I could use clear Epoxy to laminate two together without it showing a line. Has anyone tried it?

Pistol grips and matching knife scales. I decided not to use Rosewood.

I don't have any Ivory.....

Just in case you were wondering about the Ivory, I have a lot of gold and silver and before anyone says it, no....I don't trust the stock market.

Gold and Silver started getting hard to get at good prices a few years ago. I don't pay over $5.00 an ounce for Silver or $300.00 for Gold.

Anyway, I started buying Ivory instead (preban of course) Over the years, I sold some to other knife makers and gave a little away and made a few knives handled with it for special friends.

But I don't have anymore...or Gold or Silver either!

Don't know about laminating it, but River Junction has polyurithane grips with 20-60% bone and ivory dust added. Put a set on my 51 navy conversion a little while back and though they don't looks as good as ivory they have held up great so far, black powder soot and all.

You also might try True Ivory, it looks about as close as you can get to real ivory, unfortunatly it's not far in price either!

If you're worried about the seam showing, what about laminating with a contrasting material, basically a thick spacer?

I have a couple of knives with Camel bone and it is fabulous to look at. I couldn't beleive it when I first opened the package, it can almost glow.
