Anyone like Cold Steel pocket clips?

I think some Cold Steel stuff is pretty good. I really like their voyager series, I have a 4inch and 5inch clip point. The only problem I have is with their steel pocket clips. They are so stiff and makes it really uncomfortable to carry. I have to use both hands to remove the knife from my pocket because of those damn clips. I got some pliers and tried to loosen them up but I couldn't even adjust them a millimeter.

I've resigned myself to start using a lanyard but it's not ideal because my pockets have a lot of crap and I don't like my knives getting all dinged up by my ipod, coins, phone, etc. I was thinking of maybe asking STR if he could add a better pocket clip, but then thought that I could buy a cheap belt sheath and carry it like a Buck 110. Anyone else hate those damn clips?

Careful with the pliers, you might snap the screws. I did a fast fix one time, placed the screw end of the clip into a set of vise grips, and then tweaked the clip with a large screwdriver. But that was with a blade that I wasn't too concerned about the minor scratches. Otherwise, take the clip off to bend it.

I wouldn't say I hate the Voyager pocket clip but I do dislike it. There's a video on youtube describing its failures (which you described) but he also describes how he made it better. He suggests grinding the tip.

Video here. Go to 3:50 to hear about the mods.

I don't know how well it works or how easy it is to do, but I tried modding mine in a different way. I took off the clip and put the screw end into a vice grip. I then took a hack saw and attempted to cut off the tip of the clip. Well 3/4 through the clip the screw end broke. I contacted CS and they sent me a new clip. Since then I have just lived with the difficult clip. I guess it doesn't bother me that much because I usually EDC it.

CS's clips suck. They're too stiff and they make it a pain to remove as well as attach to the pocket.

I find that Cold Steel often has terrible clips. The Ti-Lite is terrible, the Rajah series has it almost half way down the handle

I will take a stiffer clip if it keeps it in the pocket. I have taken one of my CS clips off and tweaked it with pliers before. Not to loosen it up but to tighten it back down. It caught on something really hard, and tweaked it out a bit.

I have lost a couple of other knives because the clips were not strong enough (one particular Buck cross lock I must have lost 20 times, but for some reason that one always found it's way back to me even though I hated it).

Haven't bought a Cold Steel knife in many years.

The last Voyager I bought, like the others, came with beyond worthless integral plastic pocket clips. They'd last a few months, break, and you'd be SOL.

Here's a pic of one that's, remarkably, still attached:

I don't like that integrated clip either, but I love how that side of the handle is smooth. The current one is rough on both sides, I just wish the steel clip had a little more give. I have Benchmades, Spyderco, Strider SNG, Sebenza, and none of them were this stiff.

I have not bought a CS in years. The only ones I ever had were integrated plastic.
Inre stiff clips. One of the first things I do when I buy a new knife is remove the clip and tweak it for a tighter fit. I absolutely hate when you stoop down for something, and the knife you are carrying slides up out of your pocket. I have never lost a knife due to a loose clip because I do not leave them loose.

I prefer clips that are tighter there is less of a chance of losing a knife with a snug clip.

The clips on my three-inch Voyager, Vaquero Grande, and Rajah II are significantly tighter than any other production knives I've ever come across---they are a hindrance to using the decent knives they are attached to.

The clip on my X2 Voyager came with a perfect balance of ease of use and secure retention---maybe I got lucky on that one. I'm quite happy with it, though.
