anyone like shepards pie?

walmart used to sell a frozen one called"coming home shepards pie" and it was so damn good i used to eat it twice a week.now they discontinued it and i cant find it nowhere.anyone no i any good frozen brands?
 
Take one shepard.................., add sheep dog......... You have got me going. We don't get that kit our way. Some months back I was reduced to making my own pork pies after someone mentioned them. Dang I am gonna have to try that site.
 
This is the best shepherds pie I've ever made (or eaten). Its from the Hell's Kitchen guy, Gordon Ramsey. I don't like lamb, so I bought a cut of beef and chopped it up myself. I did not use hamburger.

Shepherd's pie
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
• 500g minced lean lamb (17.5 oz)
• 1 large onion, finely grated
• 1 large carrot, finely grated
• 2 cloves garlic
• 1-2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• 1 tbsp tomato puree
• Handful of thyme sprigs, leaves picked
• 1 sprig of rosemary, needles chopped
• 250ml red wine (8.5 oz)
• 300ml chicken stock (10 oz)
• 1kg Desiree potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks (2.2 lbs)
• 50g butter 1.7 (oz)
• 2 egg yolks
• Parmesan, for grating
• Olive oil
• Sea salt & freshly ground black pepper

Method: How to make shepherd's pie
1. Preheat the oven to 180˚C/gas 4 (356F)
2. Heat the oil in a large pan until hot. Season the mince and fry in the oil over moderate to high heat for 2-3 minutes. Stir the onions and carrot into the mince then grate the garlic in as well. Add the Worcestershire sauce, tomato puree and herbs and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour in the red wine and reduce until almost completely evaporated. Add the chicken stock, bring to the boil and simmer until the sauce has thickened
3. Meanwhile, cook the potatoes in boiling salted water until tender. Drain then return to the hot pan over low heat to dry out briefly. Pass them through a potato ricer then beat in the egg yolks, followed by about 2 tbsp grated Parmesan. Check for seasoning
4. Spoon the mince into the bottom of a large ovenproof dish. Using a large spoon, layer the mashed potato generously on top of the mince, starting from the outside and working your way into the middle. Grate some extra Parmesan over and season. Fluff up the mash potato with a fork to make rough peaks. Bake in the oven for approximately 20 minutes, until bubbling and golden brown
 
To be honest I don't really care for American food. Shephards Pie is really traditional American l think left over from our colonial England days. Really popular in the UK. I occasionally try it at diners/restaurants in the New England/East Coast area but don't really care for it. Not sure if Cracker Barrel makes it but if they do I am sure it's good. They really do American food right. I guess I just like a meat dinner with pie for desert. BTW traditionally I believe they made shepherds pie by throwing in leftover meat from the day before into a pie crust and then flavoring eat with a bunch of crap before baking. I do however like Chicken Pot Pie from Marie Calenders or Knots Berry Farm in Buena Park CA (which also makes great traditional American food).

If you use beef instead of lamb it's usually called cottage pie. Sometimes people put a layer of sliced potatoes on the top instead of mash.

To be honest, once things like Worcester sauce and herbs are added I can't tell if I'm eating minced beef or minced lamb.
