Just won one on e-bay, and I have to say it is one fine looking knife. Man it is hard to open. Is that normal? Does it cut good? It is the large one.:)

It loosens up after a few hundred openings. Its one of my favorite edc's and it cuts like a beast. I liked it so much I got 2.

You're gonna love it. Be sure to check out the mini Persian also. This family of knives (including the Kris) take production knives to a new level. Top drawer stuff. Get some spare clips from SFO while they still have stock. They're like 7.95 each if I recall correctly but nothing else works. It is a special clip.

I've got the mini persian and it is one of my favorites. Wash it with hot water and soap and then a drop of oil and then play with it for a couple houre and it will open like a dream!!

Help a newb: What's SFO and why do you need spare clips?

I don't like the Persian, I love it. One of the best looking Spydercos ever in my opinion, a very nice design. The opening can be heavy, the spring is quite strong, but should ease out over time as mentioned above. Build quality on mine is among the best I've ever seen on a Spyderco.

I love the way the mini-P looks. I hope to pick one up if/when it comes down slightly into my budget range =)

SFO is Spyderco Factory Store.

Clips break. Sometimes they snag on things and get bent, and break when you try to bend them back. Sometimes the screws work loose and the clip falls off. If any of those things happen, you may want a new clip to put back on. If the Persian uses a non-standard clip, having a spare or two would be a good idea.

Unless you are one of those people who buy knives just to look at. If you aren't going to carry it, you will probably never need a spare clip. :D

This is Ed's recommendations: "I flush with WD 40, blow it out with compressed air and relube with a synthetic oil. I recommend that you do this maintanance on a regular or annual basis. Enjoy the knife...Take Care...Ed"
And this is thread about Persian http://spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23227&page=2
Personally, it is my favorite and now it is in pocket. I did not do anything special about opening, just open it a lot, use it and it is great. I EDC it for 3-4 month.
I wish it would be full flat grind.
I love this Micarta handle, it is very comfortable, even if you are not using finger choil. It looks great with ss bolsters. 3.5" long VG10 blade is perfect size for me.
The knife is terrific. Enjoy.
I hope that one day it will come back as a sprint run with full flat ground blade and white micarta or dark wood handle.

almost bought one, because i like the looks of it (blade-shape, handle), but i quickly found out it's basically Spyderco's Buck 110.

and in that case......nah, better not buy it, probably won't carry it because of the weight and thickness.

Two month before I bought Persian I started to work out for 45 minutes 5-6 days a week so I would be able to lift this heavy knife and I bought a new pants 3 sizes up so it would fit in a pocket. You can do the same. :D

Best knife Spyderco ever made. If it had a full flat grind, 14mm hole, traction grooves like the Lava, and no Boye dent, then it would be perfect.

You might mention that Ed is the knife designer, Ed Schempp, who dreamed up this beauty knife. ;)

I love the blabe size and shape, but the handle is too small for me. :( It's really too bad because I love the looks of it!

I actually like the smaller Persian better than the larger one. All of Mr Schempps knives are very nice. IMHO, I would not be putting them in the same category as the Buck 110. No way.
