I've been listening to a bit again. Old and new tunes. Been awhile since I listened to it but I heard it on Sirius radio for a few months. Some cool stuff, some really horrible stuff too though. Oh yeah, the craziest "Reggae" album I've ever heard would be London Zoo by The Bug. :D

Just curious if anyone else ever listened to Reggae?

Pretty much live on it, theres a few sub-genre's so I'm not sure what wave/style you are into. But I basically like anything that isn't super Rootsy(AKA unbearable to listen to unless you are out-of-this-universe high)

Black Uhuru = Good reggae from the 80s', VERY polished. They had about 200 different members but if you get their original stuff it's pretty good. Songs like "Sponji Reggae'', "What Is Life?'', and "Utterance'' are my favorites.

Theres a lot of Newer Wave Raggae being made here in the states. One of my favorites is SOJA(Soldiers of Jah Army), I've seen them play a few times here in Maryland and they do it right.

Theres a lot of Hybrid-Raggae coming out of Hawaii and Southern California, if you are into that more Sublime/311 stuff - people dig that stuff at parties a lot more than standard 'zone out' raggae. Slightly Stoopid, The Expendables, Rebelution, etc. All kick a lot of ass.

I could go on forever, I'm just typing what comes off the top of my head. PM me if you want more.

Oh ya... I like Bob & friends (who doesn't), Rusted Root, Sublime etc, but lately I've been leaning more to the roots side ... like Ben Harper and John Buttler ... not so much raggae per se but seems to give off the same vibe

I'm more a ska fan, but my favorite ska bands are more traditional ska, which is closer to the original rocksteady ska or reggae (much moreso than that rockier, punkier stuff). Bands like Hepcat or the Slackers. And of course, the Toasters, the Specials, and the Skatalites. The small amount of actual reggae I have is older stuff, like the Maytalls or Jimmy Cliff. All told I have somewhere upwards of 275-300 ska/reggae CDs. I'm not a fan of dub.

The Hawaiian stuff has been getting really stale over the last few years, but if you've never heard any of it you might like it.

Island985.com has a listen live feature. And you can check out tropicalstormhawaii.com for lyrics and such.

It's cool to see some others dig reggae too.

Here's a little of what I've been listening too lately (i'm stretching "reggae" here a bit):
Nitty Gritty
Willie Williams
John Wayne
Busy Signal
Wayne Smith
Bad Brains :D
Sammy Dread
Sublime
Dean Fraser
Mykal Rose
Peter Tosh
Max Romeo
Black Uhuru
Bob Marley
The Bug
Skinny Puppy :D

Ekolu
Marley
Peter Tosh
Gregory Issacs
Dennis Brown
Toots & The Maytals (saw them live not too long ago)
Jimmy Cliff
Steel Pulse
Garnett Silk
Yellow Man
Mighty Diamonds
Wayne Jarrett
Michael Prophet
Barrington Levy

I could go on all day. I love reggae.

I'm a fair fan of Bob Marley, haven't gotten into much else though.

Love "Redemption Song"..."Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds"!

there is a show called Reggae bloodlines on www.kgnu.org (look for saturaday listings) that is pretty good. Content varies by DJ and week.

Same goes for a show called dub palace (sun evening listing??). Again - content totally varies and some is more regqae in orientation. Worth checking out. They have play lists so if you have a keen insight into the genre you can filter whether it is worth listening too.

Cool. Much appreciated.

Thanks for all of the leads on some new cool tunes guys. :D

I've really been digging some old dub lately from the masters... King Tubby, Kieth Hudson, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Scientist. Good stuff.

In addition to the usual stuff like Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, etc. most of my collection is made up of old Trojan label stuff along with quite a bit of 2 Tone and 3rd Wave Ska as well as a smattering of Dancehall and a little Dub thrown in for good measure.

Some favorites include The Skatalites, Paragons, Pat Kelly, Rudy Mills, Silver Stars, The Specials, Madness, The Toasters, Engine 54, The Scofflaws, Lets Go Bowling, Toots and the Maytals, Clancy Eccles, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Prince Buster, Derrick Morgan, Desmond Dekker, Laurel Aitken, Eek-a-Mouse, Sister Nancy, Tennor Saw (heck, I even like stuff such as the Mighty, Mighty Bosstones, Bad Manners, and Bim Skala Bim;)).

I got to see so many great acts live during the 3rd Wave revival during the '90s that I couldn't even begin to list them all.

One of the stations we created on Pandora is Reggae, of course we named it Marley.

Wha? Reggae? No mon. Only sat in Bob's rockin' chair back in tha day, mon, and toured Africa with Cliff & Tosh in '85. Good herb mon. Never heard of reggae, nope, sorry. Jah rules.

Ja mon, no problem.
My youngest, when she was a baby, would sometimes cry non-stop. The ONLY thing that would get her to stop would be to start singing a Bob Marley tune. Not sure of the title, but it'd go like this.... "don't worry, 'bout a thing. cause every little thing is gonna be alright..." That song stopped her from crying right away. God Bless Bob Marley! She's 5 yrs old now. Still LOVES Bob Marley.

I used to listen to it a fair bit when I was younger and had some quality stuff on vinyl from my cuttin n scratchin turntabeling days.

Some the better stuff I had were folks like:

David Isaacs
Dillinger
Lee Perry
Mikey Dread
Winston Blake
King Tubby
Prince Jammy
Zap Pow
The Vulcans
The Ethiopians
Prince Far I
Linval Thompson
Leroy "Horse mouth" Wallace
.........etc.

That song is "Three Little Birds". Good tune. But then, a whole lot of Bob Marley's stuff are good tunes.

And here is a guy who obviously knows his reggae! I do love me some roots, even if mine are turning gray. :)

I only have a few reggae albums, but I do listen to them quite often. Some of my favourites are Bob Marley (of course), Delroy Wilson, Lee Perry, Buju Banton, and especially Max Romeo. I also have this nice compilation box "Trojan Rude Boy Box Set", 50 rude boy tracks from Trojan Records.
