They make pocket holsters for guns. How about knives? The gun ones are squarish so they stay in the pocket when you draw the gun.

Seems it would be easy to make a square knife sheath that would do the same thing. Could even be used to carry a folder open in it. California bans fixed blades but I would think an open folder would circumvent that.

(or probly just get folders banned too)

Anyhow, it would seem that a pocket sheath would be "made to order" for a little thing like a Fallkniven U2 that would fit easily in a pocket either open or closed.

Wow, I was just thinking about this last week. I was walking downtown and fondling my Delica. "Boy," I thought, "it sure would be n33t if I could carry this open in my back pocket. I'm sure somebody could make such a sheath for me."
Then I started playing with my Ti-Lite and promptly forgot the matter.
But it sounds good to me!

A G Russell Woods Walker comes with a pocket sheath.

Yeah, Ron Ryder does. And I can vouch for the quality of his work. Check him out at www.cuttersandcollectors.com. He just made me a nice sheath for my Bark River Mini-Canadian that has a clip instead of a belt loop, so I can wear it on my belt, in my pocket, et cetera.

My understanding of California's laws are that folders may be concealed if they are in the closed position.

yea, i think in most places an open folder is considered the same way as a fixed blade.
i've made a pocket sheath for my most recent knife, a little fixed-blade i just finished. it's not square, like the woodswalker (wish i'd thought to do that), but it's small [as is the knife].
i believe that you can get kydex to carry in-the-pocket. i seem to remember seeing something about such a sheath for a balisong (butterfly)...
peace.

Clay at BalisongXtreme used to do the ones that puukoman is probably referring to but he no longer does sheaths.

As for leather--contact Lifter4Him and I'm sure he can rig something up for you. You can see pics of two clip sheaths I have from him for inside the pocket here and check out his webpage for his other works. He's a great guy to work with and he makes quality stuff.

I don't have any of their stuff, but Gary Graley and Leatherman also make real nice stuff and are great to talk to deal with as well.

Lifter; Dave Abramson's leather sheath work, just keeps getting better and better. I keep seeing sheaths he's doing for popular makers along with doing custom things direct for knife collectors. All excellent quality.

Bob Dozier has made these sheaths at request. In my experience, his shop turns out the best in the industry.

Check out there section on kydex sheaths in the Knife Discussion forum.

Lavan, e mail me if you' ve any questions. Include subject title.

It's my understanding, (having read the entire 65 pages that describe, in painfull, mind numbing detail, what Kalifornia, democratik republik of, considers "dangerious weapons"... If ANY knife with a blade 2" or longer is carried consealed, (fully or partially), it's a feloney, (slip joint may be a misdomeaner). Any locking blade knife carried consealed is considered to be a dirk or dagger, again a feloney. Any knife you can open one handed without the use of a thumb stud falls under the label of switch or gravity blade and unless you only have one hand is also a feloney. Out here Most folks I know carry their belt-clip-attached knives in their pocket with just the end showing, innocent enough mistake since it works better that way, the knife will unclip from your belt and you'd loose it...This is against the law out here on the left coast and can, (if the cop is a real weenie), land you in jail for up to a year. :barf: That's why I made a pouch for my PEII...It wasn't worth the risk.

Keep this in mind as well A. Most cops won't hassel you unless your asking for it or are just flagerent so be cool and you shouldn't get in any trouble and B. out here in sunny Kalifornia 1 feloney conviction means you forfit your right to carry, own or knowingly enter any place that firearms are kept and you can never legally own or carry a knife as long as your a resident... Unless of course you get a pardon from the gov. or don't get caught.

So... I would highly recommend you don't carry a knife in your pocket as you asked about...Not out here where the PC Nazis will hunt you down and shoot you in the street like a dog. :grumpy:

All that aside...I'm fairly sure I can make a sheath like that with no problem but I'd need some pretty detailed info and cash up front.

P.S. sorry about the cop bashing...I like and respect the ploce a lot, I just don't like some of the laws out here they're forced to enforce.

I believe that open folders are already taken care of in that they are banned for concealed carry.

"12020. (a) Any person in this state who does any
of the following is punishable by imprisonment in
a county jail not exceeding one year or in the
state prison:
(a)(4) Carries concealed upon his or her person any
dirk or dagger.
(c)(24) As used in this section, a
"dirk" or "dagger" means a knife or other
instrument with or without a handguard that is
capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon that
may inflict great bodily injury or death.
A nonlocking folding knife, a folding knife that
is not prohibited by Section 653k [switchblade], or
a pocketknife is capable of ready use as a stabbing
weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or
death only if the blade of the knife is exposed
and locked into position.
(d) Knives carried in sheaths which are worn openly
suspended from the waist of the wearer are not
concealed within the meaning of this section"

I've made several Concealex ones for my own use. Usually the ones I make for belt carry will work just as well in the pocket. You can even add a little clip to them, like a Concealex G-clip, and that works alright. Or just fold the material over a special way. Nothing to it!

Get a hold of "Sheathmaker" here on the forum...he makes them...Paul Long from Kerrville, TX...Do a search & see some of his beautiful sheaths. 48 hour turnaround is a huge plus too! His sheaths are flawless!

As I understand it an open folder in sheath = a fixed blade . I used to live in Commiefornia . I have made pocket sheaths for carrying closed folders , designed to keep them oriented , and make large folders print like a notebook or wallet . Downside - you are E- screwed as far as geting to one while sitting .

I can vouch for Ron Ryder at cuttersandcollectors.com. He has made me a number of nice sheaths and pocket slips.

California, like several other states, considers carrying a concealed, open, folder to be just as illegal as the fixed blade.

Ron Ryder makes some leather slips to act as pocket protectors for your pocket knife.

Ag Russell also sells a nice leather pocket sheath for folders.

Here is a nice one for small fixed blades. It also allows for carrying a firesteel, small flashlight, pen, etc.

Well, my Charles May Fireant comes with a nice leather pocket sheath. I CAN draw the knife out of my pocket, whilst leaving the sheath there.
