Always wanted a Puma WH...but at $399, a bit too much. A decent clone would be just fine...I do plan to use it....any suggestions? I've looked and only found a Pakistani Damascus clone...for $89.... I just don't care for it... W ho knows, if I like the clone I may pop for a real one...but it will never get used...

Look in the custom maker's section in the exchange. Watch for someoe that does similar work. I doubt anyone here will make an exact clone but they may build you a knife with the WH as inspiration.

Very similar knives includes the Guide knife by German Eye brand, or the German Air Force knife "bund" I believe. Hard to find the one by Hirsckrone (sp?). I also have seen hen and rooster make a copy, or Puma has the white hunter 2000. Lastly, I like Kopromed knives from Poland. Let us know if you find anything.

I know what you mean --- not everyone can take a big dollar blade, especially one that would be hard to replace, and beat it up. Linder makes a clone of this knife. I had the Puma model at one time, and you will like the Linder.

Probably would run $250 and it too is too expensive and pretty to beat the hell out of... but I do thank you for giving me the option....

If I were smart I'd just buy a Puma Bowie .....

Treat a knife well and it will treat you well. Clean it, sharpen it in a sane manner, don't go digging in piles of rocks with it, and it will look great no matter how long you have it.

Get a older used one. Usually cost quite a bet less than the retail price you quoted.

Rec'd the Puma White Hunter today. Was in pristine shape and from E-Bay. Brand new...whomever had it before never used it... Very nice knife that is just to pretty to actually use. I compared it to my Buck 119... a nice comparison. Buck really offers a lot of value in their knives. You can get the Buck 119 for under $40.00..a new White Hunter for $329 and up....most wanting $399. I got the White Hunter because it is so unique. Tried the arm hair sharpness test..it passed. Also pressing the tip through a newspaper sheet, by weight alone it cuts through the sheet. However the blade edge showed signed of paper particles (fuzz) , so the edge is not as fine honed as it can be. Never ever had a new knife that ever was...but I will not sharpen it.

So what does a guy do that just bought a Puma White Hunter for Christmas..as odd as it might sound I think I'll get me a Buck 102 Woodsman with the Cocobolo handles...at Wal mart for under $60.00...I sure am living large!
