My father used to make custom fishing rods out of blanks and the parts needed.

After learning this, I have wanted to learn how to make them.

does anyone make them?

if so, how hard is it and what will i need to get started?

i have handle material, eyes, and thread, but i dont know what else i need

i have blanks, but they are chipped up and ruined.

thanks for any advice anyone can give me

PS: tricks to make it easier are good to

i do know if you want to make fly fishing rods from scratch you can go to southeasternflyfishingforums. com they have wonderful guys and gals that will help you. they may even help you with standard fishing rods. lots of them are from Va, NC, SC, Tenn etc

Practice on the chipped up old rods before you buy an expensive blank.
I'm pretty good with my hands and had a time rewrapping an old fiberglass surf rod that I rescued from the trash.

I made some V shaped holders out of foam core board and did it all manually.
The results were functional and passable for looks but no where near custom... or even factory lol.

surftalk.com has a pretty good rod building forum as well.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

i plan on doing it one weekend whenever i go home (im at school now)

when i do it, i will post pictures up

I've made a few short ice fishing rods, my great uncle used to make a lot of them. I just cut V's in the ends of a shoe box and about 8 inches on 1 side. It is fun and enjoyable fishing with the rods you build. There is a site with free instructions called mudhole.
