I know about CS Mini Culloden and Culloden, but I'm looking for a wooden or horn handle? Any ideas

Hello, John Nowill and sons (a Sheffield England company) makes some.

I don't know how much they'll cost in the States but in the UK they cost around 30 pounds.

Hey, I have the SD3B from this site! It was given to me by my best friend for being the best man at his wedding. Damn thing comes unsharpened, and I didn't have my belt grinder with me! Can't find out what steel, all my emails to this company have gone unanswered.

I doubt that they know. They aren't knife folks themselves, they only buy them from the factory that makes them. For a lot of folks, a Sgian Dubh is an ornament and part of a highland costume, rather than a functional blade for cutting.

i know local maker who make sgian dubh-esque knives, but they're not cheap (well over $300)

I went with this one from the bay

Overall length: 8 1/8 inches

Blade length: 3 7/8 inches

Weight: 3.5 ounces

Weight with Sheath: 4.7 oz

Carbon Steel Blade, Wood Handle and Leather Sheath with metal endcaps.

I'll report back if it is any good. Apparently the market for mid-range Sgian Dubhs is like that for midrange bali's. Perhaps rough rider could fill the void?

Spend some quality time, visiting and viewing some quality work, at J. Michael McRae's Web-site. He is an ABS Jorneyman Smith, who offers all things Scottish, from his forge. Exceptional work !!

WARNING do NOT buy the knife in the picture I posted: it's going right back to the seller. It has the worst fitting sheath I've ever seen and the "blade" is about as sharp as a butter knife (the BACK of a butter knife).

Here is the POS so you will be warned.

There are cheap (like, five to ten USD) sgian dubhs all over eBay and similar sites, if you're not concerned with quality.

Himalayan Imports makes some nice looking ones, and inexpensive.

Rat is right. HI makes a carbon steel blade with either a wood or horn grip. Not exactly to what one might consider "spec", but pretty close. It has the jimping and basic wasp waist to the handle. Very functional. Needs a better sheath or a scabbard, but rides well as a boot knife.
