Anyone making custom scales for the Mantra 3?

Finally found a Mantra 3 in stock and it was every bit as smooth as I expected. Ideal size and feature set (for me). I want one, but I'm not inspired by the G10 faux carbon fiber scales. Anyone making scales for the Mantra 3 yet?
 
They’re not fake CF, they’re laminated CF over G10...fake CF is that you find on Chinese Kershaws.

Unlikely to find any custom makers, it’s not very popular and the machining is pretty complex to accommodate the compression lock.

Try the stock ones, they’re just fine.
 
The stock scales, and just everything else about the Mantra 3 is actually pretty nice.

The Mantra 3 was my first flipper and while it flipped open easily and consistently I discovered that I just don't like flippers. I ended up selling it last week.

Oops, sorry Spyderco. Real or not, it's the carbon fiber look that doesn't inspire me. Not exactly sure what I'm after, but some burlap micarta would be cool. I get that it's not a popular model, and I get that the accommodating the compression lock is complex, but solving those two items make custom scales expensive, not unlikely, true? Is there no one out there who would take on the challenge?
 
Seems like the Mantra 3 isn't the most popular new Spyderco design and I'm guessing that means sprint runs or distributer exclusives are unlikely. For whatever reason, the black carbon fiber scales just don't do it for me.

I get that the compression lock makes for involved tooling, but I am looking for someone to make me a set of custom micarta scales for the Mantra 3. How should I go about finding a knifemaker for the job?

Why don't you try the Knifemakers forum, it's part of the Exchange. There's a section for requesting services.
 
Look around for those who make scales for the para 3 or pm2. Very similar skill set. Many scale makers can do the recesses manually, so could readily do a one-off for you. Feel free to pm if you need more direction.
 
I think part of the reason it's not as popular is due to price and steel choice .I hope at some point the will offer it in S110v or something.
 
Had a great talk with the man himself at this weekend's NRA Show in Indy. So cool to talk with Sal Glesser. Exceedingly genuine guy. I more completely understand why they Mantra 3 isn't blossoming sprint run after sprint run. Their product line is broad because different models appeal to different folks. Not every one of them reaches the point of mass appeal like a Delica or PM2. Gonna buy a Mantra 3 soon. Who knows, the black carbon fiber might just grow on me! Thanks Sal.
 
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I just had the same thought. I would love Custom scales, Micarta, Copper, even wood, for my Mantra 3.
