So I just got a Camp 10 the other day and I really like the blade shape but the hilt leaves something to be desired. I was contemplating doing a custom handle on it. Has anyone done this yet? The knife is fairly new to market so I haven't seen any custom ones yet but I'm sure it wont be too long. I started this convo over on the Becker room too so I'll put the link here so you can check it out if interested.

What specifically don't you like about the hilt? Explaining what your new handle would have as features I suppose would answer that.

Has a nice lanyard hole for some cord that is great for safety when wielding a large blade and swinging in wide arcs. I like that it is inletted so that cord isn't going to rub against your hand if you aren't gripping high on the handle. It allows to grip low for that extra little bit of leverage.

If we're talking functionality then the handle is absolutely fine how it is. I haven't put it to hard use but from what I've felt so far it should get the job done well. For me it's more of an aesthetic thing than anything else. The hand guards or quillon, whichever you prefer is too much for me. Thats my biggest complaint. I guess I'd rather not have the handle be rubber either but that is just nit picking.

I kind of like the sword inspired design myself. I think micarta would look nicer but for a large blade designed for chopping the rubber is probably far more functional and less likely to result in blistered hands. When I get a chance to use mine it will be with gloves though as its primary diet will be monster blackberry vines that take over everything around here.

Yea i think that's a good way to describe it, "sword like." I don't think it fits this blade, I can't put my finger on exactly what it is that I don't like. Maybe because the blade is so curvy and round and the handle has sharp angles. It doesn't seem to flow well for me. Anyway, I modded the handle a little today, I just took the top quillon down. I like it better like that esp because I can choke up on it now and put my thumb on the spine if I need too. Let me know what you think, good or bad.

It looks asymetric and unbalanced now. It would look good with both sides done. It isn't that bad and I would leave it.

If you do both sides though you lose all the functional safety provided. It seems on a blade that size that choking up and putting a finger on the spine wouldn't give you that much more control, especially with so much recurve in it putting the edge you'll probably be working with far away from your finger.

When working in close I think that the extension would allow you to get a bit extra leverage by putting a finger at the tip. Leverage seems more important for how this will be used rather than control. Like pushing through a small branch when stripping a log when a full swing would fly through easily and could be dangerous as you follow through.

Looking good bro! Ain't nothing like the smell of freshly modded knife in the morning!

I like it! And the price is so low you can always get another.

What are you doing to your blur??

What are you doing to your blur??

Good question...I edc'd this blur for about a year and was beat to shit. I stonewashed the blade and it came out great. I don't know what to do with the rest though, the traction insersts were torn up and junk and the scales had chips and scratches all over them so I stripped everything down. Still not sure how I want to refinish everything. Maybe Ill just duracoat it and cut some grip tape inserts and throw them in, old school style. Have any ideas?? I'm certainly open for suggestions.

Give warranty a call. I think Kershaw will send you new inserts. I could be wrong.

Or maybe get some orange faux fur!

Back to serious.. if someone can find me a source of thin Texalium (actually in stock) like in the SG10 and ANN I'd like to see if I can cut it with my vinyl cutter and make some inserts for myself and would give away some if not terribly expensive to make. Ideally I'd like the blue or some other color but the silver would be fine. The blue though would look good in your raw aluminum handle.
