Some folks like to modify the knives they buy such as polishing off a bead blast finish; regrinding the blade; polishing the handle, screws etc..
Anyone have any pics of their modification?

It’s some kind of home-made Micarta – linen fabric epoxied together and polymerized under the pressure of some bricks :)
Yes, the sheath is of the same material. I have used the blade as inside part of the form and two hand crafted pieces of dense cardboard to form its outside.
If you would try to repeat - please don’t forget to separate the blade and the sheath with thin polyethylene foil when forming the sheath. Differently your blade will remain in your sheath forever :)

I always re-grind edges eventually, but that hardly counts. The other modification I sometimes make is to sand down hot-spots on wooden and micarta handles after I've worked with the knife for a while to find them. Not all knives have them. Of course this depends on your hand and the grips you find yourself using. I've never found a hotspot on any of my Dozier or Livesay knives, but they've shown up on a few of my customs. The change (after sanding) is usually so small that you wouldn't even notice it in anything but an extreme closeup picture.

I rescaled a CRKT Urban Shark with polished buffalo horn. I polished the blade on that knife as well. It was hard, but for some reason, I haven't done another one. I've been thinking about replacing the G10 scales on my Savant with something nicer looking like a colored micarta or bone material.

I replaced the scales on my CRKT Ryan Model 7 with black Micarta. I made them to basically replicate the original ones, as I liked the look. It didn't come out perfect, but overall it is nicer than the original zytel scales. I made them a little thicker, and the knife now has a more solid feel to it. I also polished the action, and removed the LAWKS knife safety because I didn't like the looks.

I sanded off the blade coating on my 710, it was getting really bad from cutting metal. I also tried to polish the blade on my Kershaw Boa, but gave up after an hour of sanding and barely making a scratch on it. That 440V stuff is not fun to work with.

I'll knock off rough handle edges on my users.

I also had a buddy of mine, Steve Garson, do a pretty dramatic stock removal job on a CS Recon Scout...man, that one sure came out nice!

The CS has a sharpened false 'Chopping' edge now, and is lightened up significantly...sweet!

I've had TODD1 sand and polish all my G-10 handled knives. Do a search under his user name for some of his work. Simple mods. can make a production knife look so good.

Funny you should ask. I just finished refining a large Buck-Strider spearpoint. Took it all the way apart and started to apply a mirror polish to certain areas. These include;

--inside surface of the liners
--pivot pin
--spacers (3)
--thumb lug
--blade tang (around the pivot hole)
--all screw heads

Also used some Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish on the blade to give it a more satin finsh. Had to work the liner lock side washer down in order to get the blade centered. Rounded off the corners on the G-10 to a more comfortable feel.

Glad to say the mods seem to have worked as the blade is centered, and the action is MUCH smoother. Before to get all the wiggle out of the blade the pivot was so tight you could barely budge the blade. Now the blade locks up tight with no movement and is much easier to get moving.

This is a huge knife!!

I gave my AFCK (800bt) a two-tone finish by satin finishing the flats of the blade and leaving the BT2 on the rest.

I gave my 812s a recurve and added cobra skin inlays to both handle scales.

I leather wrapped the handle of my Camillus EDC.

I enlarged the choil and rounded off the point in the middle of the handle of my blue inlay Native.

I've also smoothed out the handle texture of some G-10 folders.

I've practiced a little filework on POS knives, but am not yet good enough to try it on a good knife.

And I keep thinking about giving my Axis AFCK a recurve.

I'm in the process of removing the bead blasting on an Entrek Scout... been tempted to go further and maybe add some file work as well on the spine as well... I dunno... maybe I'll put a pic here when I'm done.

I filed a circular section out of the G10 on my REKAT PioneerII. Made a huge difference in getting to the thumb stud. Makes it look a bit better too!

Heres a few I've done:
