OP I've been sending my stainless knives to JTKnives. He does an excellent job. The reason I recommended Wasatch Forge is you did say you wanted local. But JTKnives has a point about sending it out via mail.We are a heat treating company that specializes in blades. The post office is still open so you don’t have to find a local person to do heat treating.
Thank you for your response. Sending it via the mail is a good way to go and was also an option. My concern was sending it to just anyone saying they can heat treat. It seems you have some fans on here so I would like to talk it over with you. I am new on here but I’ll try to figure out how to send you a private message. Thank you Lee Hester. I will email you sir.TBadger, I live in Draper and have a small kiln. I mostly do stainless (AEB-L), and I don't have the correct oil to quench 1095. I tried to do one knife in 1095 and quenched it in (not enough) canola oil. It wouldn't skate a file afterwards, so I assume it didn't harden. I think I really need to get a 5gal bucket of Parks at some point, but I'm more interested in stainless so I've been putting it off. If you ever want to do something in stainless or one of the more forgiving carbon steels, hit me up! My email is kotjmf@gmail.com.
