As in you never purchased a knife in a store, but then decided you like knives and saw them online and started here?

I don't usually purchase them in stores because the only establisment in my area that carries knives is Wal-Mart;)

I never have, but then I own only about 10 knives. I'm also really biased against these giant department stores and the less giant internet sites as I'm partial to being able to inspect certain items before I buy them, knives, guns, and tools mainly. I'm always more than ready to shell out a little extra to get the opportunity to hand inspect something.

That said I will soon be part of the internet knife buying community. A friend of mine has a Gene Ingram drop point that is absolutely amazing (particularly to someone new to the knife world). I ordered one just like it, and I expect he will want me to pay for it at some point, so I'll be joining you all sometime in December.

that's an interesting question..

I've _never_ purchased a knife offline before.. i started getting into knives when i found this cheap "high tech sugical stainless aluminum knife" on ebay... it was like $7.99... i bought it and thought it was really cool.. but then moved on.

I started looking at Kershaws and CRKTs and Spydies mainly... some BM's too. I didn't live near any cutlery stores at the time, but then when i had the chance to go to one, House of Knives, i looked at the prices and

so much for buying offline after that.
I've seen the wal-marts out here carry some decent user-grade gerbers and bucks and a few nice Vic SaK's.. but nothing more...

I haven't bought from a brick & mortar store for a year. I tend to buy at the lower prices... My current dealer is in Texas, just a little out of the way.

She checks out every knife she gets from factory before she ships them out, so you know the knife you get isn't a lemon. I also pay about 75% of factory + shipping + duty.... if I buy up here from the closest B&M store, I pay factory + shipping + brokerage + store gain...

I might stop in to handle a knife before I order, but will not buy from them until they can match Linda's prices. Yeah, I lost my 10% discount(was soon to be 15%), But I get the lower prices.

I have bought knives in stores, but they were always presents for someone else, or bought on behalf of someone. Never bought a knife of my own offline.

I've only purchased two knives offline.

The first was a Spyderco Blue Delica SE w/ molded clip. It was my first Spydie. I still have it, along with 53 other Spydies.

The other offline purchase was just two weeks ago. I found a N.I.C.A. Large Sebenza and bought it as a 35th b-day present to myself.

So, out of ~75 knives, I only handled two before purchase.

I was actually shopping around recently. When you look on benchmades site and it says 180 retail. Thats how much it costs in the store and depending, it can be found a lot cheaper online. I don't know, i like to feel the knife to see how it fits my hand, but i'll take a bit of a risk on the lock up or something to save that extra money.

I have never bought a knife online, but then I have a connection and get them for cost.
