Anyone NOT Accept PayPal?

I currently accept paypal, but wish I didn't have to. I know Darrin Sanders doesn't accept it, I'm just wondering how many other makers do not accept PP and how it has affected your business. I'd prefer USPS Money Orders myself. But there is something to be said for impulse purchases and PayPal makes that happen.

Your thoughts?

Well, we do accept and pretty much have to..Probably 90% of our business comes thru paypal..I know the fees suck but you can write them off on your taxs..I too wish I didnt have to, but we had way to many "You dont take PP?, shame. Thanks anyway" comments..

I had a discrepancy with PayPal (not BF related) and came out on the smelly end of the stick so I refuse to accept it anymore. It costs me a few sales but I'm still doin OK. I do a lot of custom orders and have never had a customer who had a problem with my payment methods. The only ones who back out are people buying from the sales threads here.

Nothing beats "Cold-Hard-Cash", but in today's society, PayPal or Plastic is what it takes to survive. I would say that between 80-90% of my sales are done via the "Inter-Webz", and even though PayPal's fees hurt a bit, they are pretty much in line with what I would pay if I did the "Plastic" route.

A customer who does not even have a PayPal account can still pay you with several different "Plastic Cards" through PayPal.

As a side note, I have a "Master Card" debit card through PayPal that I use often when I buy something from a vendor who doesn't take PayPal. It doesn't cost me anything as the fees are passed on to the company/individual I buy from.

I have been using PP for somewhere around 7-8 years and (Knock-on-Wood), I have never had a problem of any kind. When I do have a problem, I will look to other alternatives.

Hi Mudbug007,
I take Pay pal. It is one form of getting paid for my knives.
What I do not put up with are people that ask me to put their payment down as a Paypal Gift. This is so I can charge them less.
Heck if they want me to cheat paypal of their fee who will they cheat next?
I also take USPS money orders.
Even a personal check, but it will have to clear first before shipping the product.
Sincerely,
Dave

Thanks folks. I really don't have a problem with PP fees. When I owned a service business, I took CC's through PP because their fees were cheaper than any merchant account I could find. Like Robert said, Cash Is King and I like dropping by my PO or bank and cashing a Money Order and walking out with green backs in hand. When I transfer money from my PP account to my bank account, it can take 3 to 5 days to get in there.

I was afraid that not accepting PP would cost sales, I just wanted to see some numbers. Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences.

I'm with Darrin. I don't use Paypal (for similar reasons to Darrin), and for those that want an online option, I use Amazon Payments. It's free on all sides, and no fees. Then again, I don't really have that many customers, or the impetus to make a lot of sales. But I absolutely refuse to use Paypal ever again.

I've thought of offering customers a price reduction equal to the paypal fee if they would pay with a certified or personal check. Only one person did. It seems most people think of pay pal as a form of insurance. If they don't like what they bought, they can dispute the charge. At least, that's what several people told me.
